I had a great time at the hostel. Nina (who takes care of us) can be quite exigent, but if you learn how things work and do your job properly, she becomes this affective mother for all the volunteers. The hostel is well located, you can perfectly enjoy your stay in Sofía. Thank you for everything!, Alex and Nina!

It was a good experience. I learned and had the opportunity to improve personal qualities. working hours are respected and the big "secret" is to do things as Nina says :) The volunteers made everything cooler and more fun. I just have to thank everyone who crossed my path 🥰

It was my first volunteer activity. I met wonderful teammates. I cannot explain how wonderful they are enough. Alex and Nina are also nice people. You may face some troubles with Nina because we have a crucial difference on the culture. You can feel better with Nina after you get used to tasks.

Volunteering at Hostel n1 was an amazing experience! The activities are simple, methodical and should be performed with the same perfection of Nina. She's who teach us the cleaning and organization activities. Alex isn't all the time present in the hostel, but he's always available on WhatsApp to support us. Unfortunately I had to shorten my stay, but I got good new contacts, and I was able to get to know the city well on my days off and see snow for the first time. The accommodation it's good and the food was restored whenever we needed it. A special thanks to Alex, Nina and Hosteln1 family ❤

Alex and Nina are very generous hosts and I had a lovely time at this hostel. The volunteers are amazing and it was great to meet guests. Nina even showed me how to make potato pies. However, there is a high expectation for cleanliness and specific ways of doing things. But, once you learn them and build trust with Nina it's easy. Give yourself a week to adjust.

The hostel is really in a great location! Close to several tourist attractions, close to the metro, market and cafes. I missed the heaters inside the hostel, which are really necessary now in winter. The work is not that hard but there are many rules and schedules to be followed. Nina, the owner, is demanding, controlling and doesn't speak English which makes it a bit difficult. What makes everything lighter are the other volunteers, who were incredible and I will keep them in my heart.

It is a place to learn about the organization and management of a hostel, since there are many norms and rules, only if you have to be a very patient person, and not take anything personally.

The work itself is not hard, good location and good benefits for volunteers like commissions and tours. However, I ended up leaving early due to the lack of respect from the owner. I constantly felt like nothing was good enough for Nina, and when she did not like something (often) her tone and manner was disrespectful. She uses the fact that she cannot speak English to disguise being rude, then says “sorry, sorry” and forces a hug, never changing her behaviour. I left early after being yelled at in Russian for a non-issue that I did correctly. They then tried to say I was a no-show.

Unfortunately, this can happen if a volunteer, even after two weeks, cannot do well simple tasks shown to her many times and continues to skip tasks from easy instructions.

In the hostel I met wonderful people doing volunteer work with the girls. Jung, Paula, Mylene, Julia. It was very nice to share with them and work together. The hostel has a family atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable. Nina has a special character, but if you give yourself the time you can get to know her and see that she has a sweet side too. It is strict so you must be prepared. Alex is quite flexible with days off. For me it was a very good experience. and I learned a lot to relate to characters other than mine. It has also helped me a lot to practice my English. I recommend it
