The hostel is really in a great location! Close to several tourist attractions, close to the metro, market and cafes. I missed the heaters inside the hostel, which are really necessary now in winter. The work is not that hard but there are many rules and schedules to be followed. Nina, the owner, is demanding, controlling and doesn't speak English which makes it a bit difficult. What makes everything lighter are the other volunteers, who were incredible and I will keep them in my heart.

It is a place to learn about the organization and management of a hostel, since there are many norms and rules, only if you have to be a very patient person, and not take anything personally.

The work itself is not hard, good location and good benefits for volunteers like commissions and tours. However, I ended up leaving early due to the lack of respect from the owner. I constantly felt like nothing was good enough for Nina, and when she did not like something (often) her tone and manner was disrespectful. She uses the fact that she cannot speak English to disguise being rude, then says “sorry, sorry” and forces a hug, never changing her behaviour. I left early after being yelled at in Russian for a non-issue that I did correctly. They then tried to say I was a no-show.

Unfortunately, this can happen if a volunteer, even after two weeks, cannot do well simple tasks shown to her many times and continues to skip tasks from easy instructions.

In the hostel I met wonderful people doing volunteer work with the girls. Jung, Paula, Mylene, Julia. It was very nice to share with them and work together. The hostel has a family atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable. Nina has a special character, but if you give yourself the time you can get to know her and see that she has a sweet side too. It is strict so you must be prepared. Alex is quite flexible with days off. For me it was a very good experience. and I learned a lot to relate to characters other than mine. It has also helped me a lot to practice my English. I recommend it

A great experience! Alex and Nina (his mother) are always available for anything we may need, the hostel is comfortable and has everything we need, plus the location is great. Nina is a strict Russian lady, so do everything the way she asks, follow the house rules and you won't have any problems, if you give Nina a chance you will see how much she takes care and worries about us like a mother, she can be very sweet and fun! Sofia is a wonderful city and I highly recommend the experience. :)

I had a great time the hostel n1, both Alex and Nina were always helpful and available for everything, whether it was a change in the shift or an help in the tasks. I'm also so grateful that the other volunteers where always nice and welcoming to me when i first got there, they really made a difference in my experience. I would recommend going at the rila monastery and lakes trip, it's really worth it :)

It's my second experiences in the hostel, Nina and Alex are wonderful host, be patient with the culturel barrier's, if you don't understand something ask again and Nina will help you, she will treat you like one of her childs, teach her new words she is happy to learned, the task are pretty easy just copy and put attention in the way that she do the things! if you sell the tours you will be able to go and also you will get a commission! you cannot leave the hostel without go to the seven Rila lakes!!!

My experience the hostel N1 was really good. They expect you to work hard in your shift but at the same time they are too generous with food, schedule changes and the tours you can join. I met a lot of wonderful people there, and i will definitely miss Nina, who took care of me all this time. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
