This experience was better than a ever could expect! The dogs, staff and volunteers I met, they all are amazing. Would highly recommend ARA to someone who loves animals and participating in a friendly, fun and safe community! The city Loule is a easy 20 minutes walk into town and has a lot of nice cafés. And the nature is lovely to!

Linn volunteered with us at the shelter and was a pleasure to work with. She was very good with our dogs, always calm, friendly, and attentive to their needs. I really had a great time volunteering at ARA. Since it was my first volunteer experience, I didn't know what to expect, but the friendly and competent staff, as well as the other volunteers, made me feel comfortable right away. Working with the dogs every day was incredibly rewarding, and it's clear that the animals are very well cared for. Also Loulé is a lovely town and easy to reach on foot, which made my stay even nicer. I can genuinely recommend this place to anyone and would love to come back!

Dominic was a great addition to our shelter during his 3-week stay. He quickly became a dependable and supportive volunteer, always approaching every task with enthusiasm and care. He hosted two of our kittens in his accommodation and looked after them wonderfully, ensuring they were well-fed, safe, and comfortable. His gentle manner helped them feel secure and loved. Dominic’s commitment and positivity were truly appreciated, and we would be happy to have him volunteer with us again.

I highly recommend volunteering at ARA - they're truly a top host! The staff are incredibly dedicated, patient & knowledgeable, working tirelessly to ensure every the shelter receives proper care, enrichment & affection. I have had an amazing time at ARA! Both the staff and the other volunteers are great, and will do their best to make you feel welcome the moment you arrive. In addition, the animals are all taken care of very well, and it feels very rewarding to contribute to their wellbeing by volunteering. If you are still a bit in doubt about volunteering at an the shelter, ARA is a great place to do so. I have already scheduled my second volunteering period!

I had a wonderful four weeks at ARA. It was my first volunteer experience and I think it couldn't have been any better. I was really scared because I came alone, but I met so many great people right after arriving! I learned so many new things about the work at a shelter, but also about myself. The team is amazing and always helpful, so I felt safe the whole time. The amount of work was fair and I really enjoyed spending time with the dogs and cats! Besides the work, I had plenty of free time to explore the shelter or spend time with the other volunteers. Hopefully I'll be back soon!

This was my first Worldpackers experience and it was a really good one. I enjoyed working with the dogs, especially seeing how some of the more shy ones slowly gained confidence with calm and patient handling. And the little kittens in our trailer were definitely a lovely highlight!! The place is well organized, the work is clear, and you get plenty of time to connect with the animals and explore the beautiful area. Would be happy to come back. :)

ARA was an outstanding experience, and if you're thinking about going — do it! :D You will never feel alone or lost, but immediately welcomed. The animals are amazing, and not only do you get to help them, but your mental health also improves while being surrounded by so many lovely souls (especially the little kitten in my trailer 🐱).
