Animal Rescue Algarve

We are a NGO formed to help abandoned and mistreated animals in the Algarve, South of Portugal.
Our kennels are beautiful little wooden houses, fully insulated, where we pair 2 dogs maximum in each kennel so they have a peaceful place to chill and sleep. All our dogs go for walks and have fun time at our parks every day.

We have a very motivated team that genuinely love animals. This place has proven to be a healing place not only for animals but to a few good human souls too :) Our goal is to give a second chance to those abandoned dogs and cats by finding them new loving families and homes, locally and abroad :-) We also aim to educate and inform the local population about the benefits of sterilising their animals and the raise awareness about animal welfare.

Working with ARA was a really positive and interesting experience! I got to learn how to take care of dogs (as i have always been more of a cat person) and had fun spending time with all the animals there! Im going to miss them :’(
The staff were really friendly and didn’t make you feel bad if you needed help and asked questions. There was quite a bit to learn but they are always happy to remind you on how to do things!
The volunteer house was really nice and has a balcony with the prettiest view of the nature and trees.

Choosing ARA as my first volunteer project was the best decision I could have made. The animals, the people, and the whole place grow incredibly dear to you very quickly. The work and the working hours are really fair, and you also have plenty of free time! The entire team is very friendly, open, and always helpful, so you quickly feel welcome and integrated. All the dogs and cats are really well cared for, and it's a joy to be able to help out with that every day. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and can wholeheartedly recommend a stay at ARA to everyone!! :))

Nehle was a lovely volunteer and a real pleasure to have with us. She is very hardworking, reliable, friendly, kind, and always brought a warm and positive attitude. I had such a wonderful time at ARA! It was my first volunteering project and I am so glad that I decided to choose ARA. I can truly wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone! You immediately feel welcome and the people and animals you meet are just amazing. Everything is well organized and the animals are really well cared for.
I would really like to thank the entire ARA team, the other volunteers, and the animals for allowing me to have this wonderful experience! I'm already looking forward to my next visit, because I will definitely be back :)

Charlotte volunteered with our dogs and cats shelter for four weeks, and she was an excellent volunteer throughout her time with us. She was reliable, hardworking, and always completed her tasks with care and dedication. Charlotte worked very well with both the animals and the team, showing kindness, patience, and a positive attitude every day. She was friendly, respectful, and always willing to help wherever needed. Her contribution was truly appreciated and we would be happy to have her back!

My time at ARA was amazing. It was a really welcoming place and I enjoyed structure and freedom during my stay. There is clearly a lot of love for the animals there and the staff are incredible. They were patient teaching newcomers the ropes. The work they are doing is life changing for animals and people alike.

How. An I describe this amazing experience?
Ara is truly an incredible place dedicated to helping animals.
The center is very well organised and I felt welcomed from the moment I arrived.
My experience with the staff was excellent ,
The communication was clear, kind and professional.
All the volunteers were truly commited to the cause.
I completely fell in love with the location, and most of all, with the shared purpose: helping animals to find their forever homes.
I’m already planning to come back as soon as possible to follow up with the dogs and cats. This experience really touched my soul

Diego has been an excellent volunteer and an incredible support to our team. He is great at everything he does, from cleaning to training, and always completes his tasks with care and efficiency.
