I had a wonderful four weeks at ARA. It was my first volunteer experience and I think it couldn't have been any better. I was really scared because I came alone, but I met so many great people right after arriving! I learned so many new things about the work at a shelter, but also about myself. The team is amazing and always helpful, so I felt safe the whole time. The amount of work was fair and I really enjoyed spending time with the dogs and cats! Besides the work, I had plenty of free time to explore the shelter or spend time with the other volunteers. Hopefully I'll be back soon!

This was my first Worldpackers experience and it was a really good one. I enjoyed working with the dogs, especially seeing how some of the more shy ones slowly gained confidence with calm and patient handling. And the little kittens in our trailer were definitely a lovely highlight!! The place is well organized, the work is clear, and you get plenty of time to connect with the animals and explore the beautiful area. Would be happy to come back. :)

The animals are amazing, and not only do you get to help them, but your mental health also improves while being surrounded by so many lovely souls (especially the little kitten in my trailer 🐱). For me ARA was truly the best place for my first travel experience on my own. I'm so grateful for everything I learned, the people I met and all the memories I made. I had a great time and enjoyed working with the dogs! I had really fine contact with the other girls I shared the house with. Loule is nearby, easily to reach by a little walk. It is a really nice little town. I spent a wonderfull time at ARA. Thanks everybody and give a lot of hugs to the dogs from me, I will really miss them ❤️ maybe I will ever come back…

My first trip to ARA was amazing and now I know why so many people return. I really enjoyed the tasks, meeting new people and connecting with the animals. Also, the local town of Loulé is beautiful with great cafes and bars. Can't wait to go back!
