Spending two weeks volunteering at ARA in Portugal was wonderful. It was already my second time there, and I can confidently say: it won't be my last. This place holds a special magic — not only because of the animals, but also because of the people. The entire team is very kind and welcoming. They genuinely care about both the animals and the volunteers, creating a warm and supportive environment. ARA is much more than a shelter — it's a place of healing, compassion, and joy. I feel so grateful to have been part of it again, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

It was my first time traveling alone and also my first Work & Travel experience. I was quite afraid, but I was welcomed and integrated immediately. I had a great time – nice people, lovely animals, and good organization. I would definitely recommend it. Thanks for an unforgettable time :)

I had a great experience at ARA. It's a very special place with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and you feel comfortable from the start. The team truly cares about the well-being of the volunteers, and they're open to feedback and willing to find solutions if any issues come up. Everything is well organized and I really liked the regular meetings with the other volunteers. It was a great way to connect. There's also time to explore the area, which I really enjoyed. I'm happy that ARA was my first Worlpackers experience and would definitely recommend it to others.

It was my 4th time at ARA and such a good experience again! The work the staff and all other volunteers do are so important. Everyone pours their heart into helping animals and giving them a better life or a chance for adoption. The work is fun and does not feel like work. It is truly a beautiful place. The communication and organisation is very good as well. I am looking forward to coming back! See you next time :)

I had the amazing opportunity to take part in my very first volunteering experience at ARA for two weeks — and it was truly unforgettable. From the very first day, I felt warmly welcomed by both the staff and the other volunteers. Raphaelle has been an incredible asset to our shelter. She has a special talent for working with dogs, especially those that are more challenging. Her calm, confident approach helps them feel safe and understood. She often goes the extra mile—literally—by taking dogs on additional walks and giving them amazing experiences in beautiful outdoor settings. Also, she adopted a dog, Maria, that was here for very long time and we are very happy for her that she will stay in Raphaelle's family!

It was my second time at ARA and definitely not my last!!! ARA is such a special place with lots of love for the animals. The staff is really nice and they do the best they can! The work you have to do doesnt even feel like work because it makes so much fun with the animals. Its also the perfect place to make new friends from all over the world. For people who love animals and want to make a difference i definitely recommend this place. ARA has such a big place in my heart and iam really looking forward to come back.

Jana was an outstanding volunteer during her second time at our shelter. Always dedicated, she spent much of her free time walking dogs and taking them to the park, giving them the attention and care they truly needed. She was especially helpful with Canelon’s training, arriving early to every shift tofeed him and making him more social. Her commitment, kindness, and calm presence made a big difference.
