The Experience

We need some help during a peak season for serving, busing, and cleaning the cafe! If you are comfortable with it, we may also have you help making drinks as well. We are on a fun pedestrian-only tourist street, and have a mix of local Japanese customers, and international travelers. Most of the work will be related to helping clear & serve tables in the hall, or doing dishes and running some small errands (send you by bicycle to the market).

Chris and Kumi are really kind, and their whole family is so sweet! The accommodation they provided me was both cozy and beautiful. The café has a super chill vibe and is located in a popular tourist spot, which makes it a great place to meet other travelers. Most of the work at the café involves serving tables and doing the dishes, but I also got to help in the kitchen and make drinks, which was really fun! The staff are all cheerful and welcoming. I really enjoyed my stay…they've been amazing hosts!

Chris and Kumi are wonderful hosts and it's reflected in the way they are running both the guesthouse and the cafe. The atmosphere they create is super friendly and welcoming so it's easy to feel at home and interact with the guests and the other staff. The work itself straightforward and fun, and there's lots of time to explore matsumoto and the surrounding area.

Staying at the guest house was an amazing experience! Chris and Kumi are incredibly kind and welcoming, and the café staff are just as lovely. The reception work is fun and a great way to meet travelers from all over the world. The music nights and small gatherings made the place truly special. If you're looking for a creative city surrounded by mountains, full of culture, and kind people, this place is definitely for you! thank you for this great time!

Volunteering here was an awesome experience. Chris and Kumi showed incredible hospitality and are very generous. The cafe work was as described and all the staff there are the best. Chris and Kumi would sometimes take the volunteers out to do activities if they had time off. There are free bikes, board games and the cafe has the best coffee! There are often music events in the cafe so a great place if you like jazz. I would definitely recommend volunteering here.

The best experience you could possibly ask for, Chris & Kumi are the kindest people always willing to help and change your schedule if you have things you'd like to do on specific days! Very easy work and japanese staff to help with Japanese check-ins if you don't speak japanese, great for meeting people to go out with if you'd like to! Zero complaints, Highly recommend
