The Experience

We need some help during a peak season for serving, busing, and cleaning the cafe! If you are comfortable with it, we may also have you help making drinks as well. We are on a fun pedestrian-only tourist street, and have a mix of local Japanese customers, and international travelers. Most of the work will be related to helping clear & serve tables in the hall, or doing dishes and running some small errands (send you by bicycle to the market).

The guest house was an amazing stay! Chris and Kumi are both incredibly friendly, I felt welcomed from the moment I arrived. All the cafe staff are absolutely lovely as well, and they make delicious drinks so definitely take the time to visit the cafe! The staff accommodation is separate from guest accommodation so you have privacy, and the beds are super comfortable. The location is convenient to everything and really close to Matsumoto castle. I highly recommend volunteering here, I would absolutely stay here again!

I stayed at the guest house in May. The work is really easy and fun. People are easy to get along with and sharing experiences is always a must ! The Guesthouse is so beautiful and clean. There are a lot of things to do in Matsumoto. Everything is easy to access (by train, bus or by bike). Chris and his family were really kind with me and always around if you encounter difficulties during work. We did a lot of nice things together (going to the restaurant, barbecue or playing Mario kart) Thanks for this great experience ! It was a real pleasure to come and meet everyone !

An amazing experience for me! Chris and Kumi are incredibly welcoming, kind, and caring, and the same goes for the cafe staff! I had a wonderful stay in Matsumoto and I highly recommend staying at the guest house, whether as a guest or a volunteer. The work is easy and gives you the chance to meet new people. If you enjoy mountains, jazz concerts, meeting new people, and sipping delicious drinks, this is the place to be!

Absolutely brilliant experience- I can't fault it!! Chris and Kumi are both so lovely and welcoming , and the cafe and guesthouse are stunning. So many musical events in the cafe aswell!!! Matsumoto is beautiful and so close to many hiking trails- Kamikochi was insane ! Thank you so so much - didn't want to leave 🥲
