The Experience

Make fellow travelers feel welcome and help them wind down. Checking-in guests, share travel ideas, keep things tidy and clean during the check-in time. Volunteers can relax and study, read, do art or do personal work while waiting for guests. Or get some free drinks in our cafe downstairs! We sometimes do community activities with the local government nearby. Not required, but recommended to join us!

My time at the guest house was nothing short of amazing. Chris and Kumi really do take care of the volunteers and are always around and happy to chat and give recommendations for things to do! The work required is very fair and is a good opportunity to meet many locals or other travellers! Because the work is mainly done in the evenings, you get the chance to make the most of your days! Chris and Kumi really know how to make a guesthouse feel homely and I appreciate being given the opportunity to volunteer here!

I loved volunteering at the guest house. The family are the kindest people, they make you feel at home. The guesthouse and cafe are both filled with loads of character. The reception work is easy. It's fun and insightful chatting to loads of other travellers. Matsumoto is a beautiful city and a good base point for travelling to other nearby cities/sites. I'm so happy I came here!

Chris and Kumi are really kind, and their whole family is so sweet! The accommodation they provided me was both cozy and beautiful. The café has a super chill vibe and is located in a popular tourist spot, which makes it a great place to meet other travelers. Most of the work at the café involves serving tables and doing the dishes, but I also got to help in the kitchen and make drinks, which was really fun! The staff are all cheerful and welcoming. I really enjoyed my stay…they've been amazing hosts!

Chris and Kumi are wonderful hosts and it's reflected in the way they are running both the guesthouse and the cafe. The atmosphere they create is super friendly and welcoming so it's easy to feel at home and interact with the guests and the other staff. The work itself straightforward and fun, and there's lots of time to explore matsumoto and the surrounding area.
