The Experience

Pruning olive trees it is like a workout hauling or drag small branches on the olive grove up. The help mainly is to cut small branches by hand with with large garden shears or secateurs and pick-up by hand and move and carry them to a wood pile and move branches in a row in order to be later chipped in small pieces in June for organic composting.

My experience at the farm grove was amazing! The other volunteers made the experience so much fun. Everyone was super welcoming and helpful. We really became like family in just the short time I was there. I only got to work on the farm grove a couple of days due to weather, but the host, Pietro, was very adaptive and either found other tasks for us or let us have the day off. Working on the grove was great too. I personally enjoyed the manual labor, and we got lots of breaks. Pietro cares a lot about this project and it definitely shows.

All the volunteers were incredible and the food was amazing! The work itself isn't bad and the town is super cute, but small

Three unforgettable weeks harvesting olives in Sicily! 🌿 The work was real, but so was the fun — singing in the fields, cooking in teams, and sharing stories in 5+ languages. We were over 40 volunteers from all over the world, working hard by day and laughing hard by night. Pietro is such a friendly host that really knows how to give his helpers autonomy and flexibility. Plus, the locals were so friendly! They all made us feel truly welcome. If you're up for teamwork, culture, and a bit of the farm oil in your soul — don't think twice, i'm sure it'll be an unforgettable experience. Just go!

Pedro is a lovely host, there's a bit of a language barrier but that might me my Australian accent coming out a bit too much. If you're looking for a true Sicilian the farm picking experience, this might not be it for you. (Lots of Germans hahah) I loved my stay, I was welcomed by Pedro and the other volunteers but also the town. The work is repetitive- and long/ hot days and rainy days All up very good experience.

I had a great time during my two weeks at Pietro's house! We were a group of ca. 12 people harvesting together and had a lot of fun - at work and especially during our free time. We cooked alltogether and became really close. :) Go to Giordano's Bar when you're in town! In my opinion, there were often unclear instructions when working in the farm grove, which sometimes led to tension in the group. But personally, I felt comfortable. Anyway, if you're a good communicator, adaptable, and motivated to do physical work outdoors, I can recommend this project!
