The Experience

We are a large animal rescue in County Kildare who always need willing helpers. There’s a very good bus service to Dublin and other parts of the country if you want to explore on your days off. The rescue organisation is very busy and full of energy, we regularly have emergencies to attend and new animals arriving constantly, visits to the veterinary hospital, and sometimes have to deal with severe cases of neglect.

Everyone is just lovely at MLHR. They make you feel welcome and respected. No matter how much experience you have with animals, they trust you to be able to handle it. Ofc they make sure that you're safe first! The work is dirty yes, but it's a farm, it is dirty there. Also, all the animas were just so lovely. Most of them have been through hell, but you wouldn't know it. I think that also speaks for the managers. 🩵 I really enjoyed my stay and I'll definitely be coming back! You can't stay away from the farm once you've been there I guess! 😂

I had a wonderful 2 week stay at MLHR! Claire and her team listened to my preferences and did everything to make me feel comfortable. As other volunteers have mentioned, the work is quite physical, but you feel like you are helping the shelter and the animals there. I met some lovely people who helped me gain confidence in my English. On my days off, I was able to visit Dublin and Mullingar. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves animals and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty. Thank you to everyone for turning my first experience with Worldpackers into a unforgettable memory

MLHR completely captured my heart because it's so full of love, and the way the animals are treated is truly wonderful. The work is hard but so rewarding because you are helping to keep this beautiful farm going. It's an incredible place where I found very good friends and met people who share my love for animals. The staff are incredible people and the house feels like home. I'm very grateful because the hosts really make an effort to provide plenty of food for all tastes and to pamper your palate. Thanks for the opportunity, and above all, thanks for giving all those animals a new life. ♥️

I loved my time at the shelter! It's definitely a chaotic environment, but in the best way possible. If you're prepared to get a bit dirty and spend time working on something that impacts lots of lives, MYHR is great for you! When in doubt of tasks, always ask questions!
