The Experience

Hello fellow travelers! We're building an animal sanctuary, permaculture garden, & glamping site to support the sanctuary. In Mizata, just a 5-minute walk from the beach, our tropical land is becoming a haven for animals and a serene retreat for guests. We house 10 rescued dogs, with more awaiting. We need animal lovers to help with construction, painting, planting, dog walks, electrical work, plumbing, and more to create a forever home for them!

I spent just over three weeks at the shelter. The dogs are so lovely, and they really are huge beautiful family. Andrea is lovely human being that opened the shelter just over a year ago, and to date they have over 50 rescued dogs. They've also re-homed a lot. It's such a lovely foundation and I would highly recommend to anyway to come here and help out making sure the dogs have the most comfortable life possible. I leave in a couple days and it will be with a heavy heart that I cannot take some of the dogs with me, but I definitely would love to come back and volunteer here again.

I had an amazing experience in the shelter. I finally found a place where I felt like I was doing something good, in this case, helping the dogs, and not just working in some hostel/hotel. The dogs are amazing, well-behaved, and there are tons of them (about 46 dogs). The beach nearby is so beautiful, the viewpoint, and the secret spot are also amazing.

If you love dogs and want to contribute to an amazing project, this is for you. All the dogs and puppies are very friendly and love to have your attention. We took care of them, gave them medicine, trained, and played with them, did some construction work (painting, cementing, new puppy cages, new area…etc) Andrea and Ale are simply amazing and always ready to hear our ideas. They put a lot of time and effort into this sanctuary, which creates a safe environment for the dogs. We love you ❤️

Anyone who loves dogs and is considering coming to travel to El Salvador, I highly recommend coming to volunteer in this wonderful project for at least a small part of your trip. The sanctuary is awesome, the volunteering is fun, the shelter where the sanctuary is located is wonderful and authentic, the beach is a 3 minute walk away, Andrea and Ale are amazing, the dogs are big balls of love, etc. + El Salvador is an extremely interesting country. In short, it is a wonderful and enriching experience that I recommend 200%.

I'm so happy to participate on this beautiful project. Andrea and Alejandro were always nice, and they take good care of the volunteers. The interaction with the dogs helped me to overcome some traumas. It gets easier when you learn their names. My time there couldn't have been any better. I loved it!The house was spacious and much better than you would expect (with basic things you need for living (a simple life). The work wasn't hard, and doable once you get the hang of it. I will miss all the dogs, but specially Lila, Pecas and the puppies. Mizata has stunning sunsets. Thanks for everything.
