The Experience

This position is mostly about gardening. Over the recent years we created a permaculture garden that gives us enough vergetables for the whole year. Composting is one of the keys in our work, because we are depending on access to good compost to keep our garden system running. From July to September harvesting and foraging are the main tasks for this position.

I had an absolute blast at the farm! The family are all lovely people and there's lots of banter / jokes shared between everyone, you are not safe from the banter!! The work is varied and fair (I have nightmares about the windows). You are blessed with some of the best home cooking you can taste with every meal made with produce from their own garden. They also strive to immerse you in Swedish culture, taking you to ice hockey matches, kayaking and other activities. I highly recommend you to volunteer here for this family!

After travelling, working and volunteering around Europe for the past 9 months, the month I spent in the farm ended up being one of the best. Astrid and Hein have hit the nail on the end in the way of creating a welcoming, social, friendly environment to volunteer in. Their hospitality and friendship is something I won't forget! The opportunity to get into nature and learn so many new skills was so valuable to me, as well as the ability to meet other volenteers. If you're thinking about applying to this WorldPackers position- just do it, you will not regret it :)

I don't think I'll have enough words to express my gratitude to the Diegelmann family. They made me feel welcomed since day one, and I got to experience so many things in just a few weeks. Hein and Astrid were patient when explaining tasks and sharing their vast knowledge. The activities were different, so I never got bored. I learned a lot from this experience, whether it was about local culture, skills, languages, or meeting other volunteers. I loved having fika, sharing meals with the group, the cultural activities, all the interesting conversations, and playing board games with the boys!

This was my first Worldpackers experience and I literally cannot recommend it enough. Socially, the family was so incredibly welcoming and accommodating. They really introduced me to Swedish life and made me feel like a true part of their beautiful family. Work-wise, the volunteer sets the hours. The work is easy and minimal, and usually you are working with others. Accommodation wise I was well fed the whole time and had my own space, which was really nice! As a young woman I felt safe the whole time and had a truly unforgettable experience. Thank you so much, Diegelmann family :)

Hein, Astrid and the boys were specifically the best thing about the experience. Their hospitality, kindness, and warmth made me feel like I am a part of their family. I could not express my thanks to them.
