Animal Rescue

Although the work is hard it is very rewarding. Working with animals is great for your mental health and their is a lot of love and laughter here.

We have a lot of people but a family atmosphere. There are lots of friends to be made here. We have family dinner once a week and the volunteers make friends for life.

Volunteering on the farm has been an enriching experience! In my case, I've made many friends and have many fond memories of the farm. The managers are very friendly, and Claire, with whom we spent the most time, is a delight. However, I want to emphasize that I don't think the house is big enough to accommodate 20 or 30 volunteers with just one shower. There were too many of us; we finished work at 4:30 p.m., and the last person on the list usually showered at 8 p.m. or even later. Also, the kitchen isn't very big, and preparing dinner is very difficult when there are so many volunteers at on

My lovely horse rescue was an incredible experience. Everyone who works there full time, all the work exchange volunteers and daytime volunteers are an inspiration! Caring for the animals and learning about their stories and all they’ve had to overcome was truly eye opening. The work is physically difficult but very rewarding! I felt safe and happy throughout my stay at the farm and am so thankful for the experiences I had!

This experience is not what I expected. Both other volunteers and me were treated unfairly and disrespectfully. The water went off for 5 days, and we could not shower or flush the toilet, and it contributed to a hostile environment with the hosts and unclean facilities, which was hardly sustainable with 15+ volunteers sharing one single bathroom at a time. The animals were lovely, and the contribution to the cause is remarkable, but it shouldn't be at the cost of volunteers who are trying to help, nor involve any sort of disrespect. Not a recommendable experience.

I loved my time on the farm! Working so closely with animals was such a rewarding experience! The work wasn't so hard, but was tiring in the best way.
The current volunteer house isn't in the best shape (moldy bathroom, peeling linoleum) but the dorms felt clean/cozy. Beware there is only 1 shower (for at times 20+ people). I think the team would benefit from more communication, as volunteers would often be given different/conflicting info, and then be chastised for not doing things right.
The work done here is so important, and I'm grateful for the experience! Would recommend applying.
