The Experience

A range of work, from gardening & chopping firewood, to dealing with sheep and chickens. We have many different gardens, two "veiled garden" with aphid cloth over it, one we call a tunnel house which is a green house for tropical plants, then 3 outdoor gardens of potato, beets & greens netted for birds. Also a berry cage. We do hugelkultur & are organic, plenty weeding, seed planting & harvesting. Also pulling out gorse and planting trees.

The family was great they welcomed me in like a part of the family from the start. was an unforgettable 3 weeks and first volunteering experience, I have learned so many new things on the farm that I will carry over. The work was very nice and Dan was very patient with teaching, also giving us free reign on which job we wanted to do (pulling gorse/scotch thistle, gardening, etc) which was great. Everyone there is great at cooking, so dinner time was something I always looked forward to. very sociable people and they love music so it was a great fit. I 100% recommend this place, truly amazing!

Dan made me feel very welcomed into the family. It was truly a peaceful place to spend some time, a nice detox from busy city life! Constantly learning new things, there was a lot of variation in tasks on the farm & was given a lot of freedom overall in choosing what to do. Thanks for having me 🫶

I had an unforgettable 10 days! Dan and his family are incredibly trusting and easy-going hosts. Even though they were away when I arrived, everything was organized. I enjoyed the responsibility of managing the farm solo (gardening, pulling gorse, mowing scotch thistle). The highlight was their generosity—they included me in their New Year's celebrations at a folk festival and treated me like family. Dan is also an amazing cook! A truly vibrant and welcoming home.

Excellent experience with an amazing host who was always present and attentive. The experience truly exceeded my expectations, and I'm sure it will exceed those of anyone who decides to help them on the farm!!! It was deeply enriching and fulfilling , I learned a lot by doing and through meaningful conversations, and I also had a really great time, very enjoyable. I can say that it's more than help with farming, landscaping and building, is also about cultural exchange, social, cultural and political awareness and having fun sharing very good moments with the family and friends. Cheers!

Florencia stayed with us for about three weeks, and held the fort down while we went away on a tramping trip for about 4 days. She was great to have around very attentive and help with the various different tasks we have around the place. My family enjoyed practicing Spanish with her as well. She has a great relaxed manner and music taste and successfully tried building tasks . It was pleasure having her around. We wish her well in all her travels. Dan and family... Adios

A full immersion into family life! Dan is very talkative and makes you feel comfortable right away. You'll enjoy great dinners together and have an amazing experience... There's plenty to do in the garden and with small construction projects, and you will learn a lot of practical skills, especially if you enjoy working outdoors. Dan is very patient when teaching new tasks, so even beginners feel confident. I truly recommend this place, it was one of the highlights of my trip in New Zealand!
