The Experience

We are looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve breakfast for guests. Breakfast is simple, like toast and jam, so you don’t need any cooking experience. We’d love volunteers who enjoy chatting with guests and answering their questions! We operate multiple hostels in the city, totalling up to 100 guests.

I lived a happy month in Takayama :) Work is straightforward and well communicated. Food is plentiful, delicious and social. There are excellent opportunities to explore the city and the nearby mountains. There's often something happening and long-term staff are enthusiastic in helping you get the most of it. Thanks Murusaki team :)

I stayed for 2 weeks, but I wish I could have stayed longer! I had so much fun, it's such a sociable place. The staff are very friendly, the food is amazing, and the work is easy. Shifts are fair (4 hours a day and 2 days off per week) so you have plenty of time to explore! Takayama is beautiful too; I truly recommend staying here❤️

This volunteer mission was one of the best I ever had so far! The kitchen shifts was really cool and you get the chance to work with Ratree one of the best cheffe I ever met 🫶🏽 The accommodation is really cosy and close to your work place. There's a lot of things to do around like sake tasting, cooking class, walk by the river, excellent restaurants… This experience was also incredible thanks to all the staff who were really professional and welcoming, thanks to Javi, Ryutaro, Clara, Ratree, Hiromi, Radka, Liam, Luke, Maiko San for their hard work and for facilitating the work organization

Volunteering at the hostel has been a really nice experience. Takayama is a small city, but very picturesque and with a lot of history, a glimpse of what Japan really is. Working hours are very manageable, 4h per day max, which it gives you plenty of time to discover the city and all the surroundings, thanks to very well connected bus and train lines. Cherry on the cake, you are going to meet many international travellers, whom will make the experience full of memories.

I quite enjoyed my time as a volunteer at the hostel. The staff was great and I met some amazing international fellow volunteers. Work time is absolutely manageble and manly in the morning, leaving you with plenty of free time to spend as you wish. Yummy food is provided twice daily. Takayama is a lovely place and a great hub to explore the surroundings. Highly recommended place, host and experience
