The Experience

We are transforming a 17th-century stone sheep barn near Nice into a world-class artistic retreat. This isn’t a standard hostel gig; this is a high-performance project for people who want to build something iconic. We combine the rough with the smooth: heavy construction and technical landscaping by day; pianos, pool parties, and tennis matches by night. We are looking for a squad of proactive, energetic people ready to work hard for paradise.

I loved my time at the host, I met an amazing community of volunteers, learnt new skills, enjoyed a few day trips into Nice & surrounding areas on days off, ate great food and had some silly down time. As soon as I was picked up from nice & welcomed by everyone I felt comfortable - David makes sure to create a friendly and upbeat environment at the Berg & it makes all the difference when you're going into something new and unpredictable. The work can be quite physical so make sure this is what you want! Thank you David & Luc & all the other beautiful volunteers- so grateful, stay groovy!

I had an amazing time at the Bougerie :) I was initially only supposed to stay for a month, but I ended up extending my stay twice! Even though there is a constant flux of people coming in and out, you immediately become a part of the little family here. It truly feels like a home, where you are encouraged to learn, grow, and expand your mind. I learned a lot about construction and working on a building site. Great place to deepen your knowledge in all things construction! If you are looking for a place to do meaningful work and build lifelong connections, do not hesitate to apply.

David is incredibly kind, fun, supportive, and genuinely cares about the people around him. He works alongside you, not just telling you what to do, and always makes sure you're comfortable and enjoying the process. He pays attention to the smallest details, when he found out I only eat halal, he made sure to get halal food so I could eat comfortably. The people here are amazing, all different but fitting together so well, and the nature and the place itself are beautiful. It honestly wouldn't be the same without David. Super grateful 🤍 thank u David and everyone!

As my first volunteer experience, I have to say it was truly the right choice. What I found here was a family, with a great sense of community. It was wonderful to have had the opportunity to contribute to making La Bergèrie a better place, both aesthetically and otherwise. We were all more or less the same age, from all over the world. We all had cute nicknames, and I can honestly say I had a truly wonderful time that I think I'll always cherish. I'm pretty sure I'd like to return a second time. Grateful to have shared my journey with each of you, guys. See you next time. "The Stallion"

I had a great stay at the host. As expected the work is mostly physical and can be a bit dusty/dirty but it's great that all the gear/PPE you need is provided, and the work hours were fair. The accommodation was perfect, the food was fabulous, the people were awesome, and the vibes were immaculate! I would love to come back some day - thank you David and the rest of the crew xx
