Overall, it was fine. But I think there are difficulties in communicating with the team, me with them but also with each other. This meant that there was little vision for work organisation. Everything was given from day to day, but no feedback on the quality of our work so we didn't know if we were doing things right. I suspect not because the team of employees kept coming after us to rectify our work, but without telling us how to improve. The working atmosphere was flat or even boring, some didn't even say hello, and sighed at our work. Conclusion : not really nice :(

I had a great time volunteering at Atami the hotel. The work was clear and easy, and the host and his wife were kind and hospitable. Most days I was done by 11 and was able to take day trips to see nearby towns often. Their wasnt a kitchen but the microwave and a minifridge worked fine. Their also wasnt any bikes or e-bikes to use like stated on the posting. If you are into a slower paced travel and enjoy time to yourself this is definitely the spot for you! 10/10 would recommend!

The host is super nice and easy-going. The work shift is either from 9am-1pm or 11am-3pm (at another location). One thing to note is how hot it gets in August. It was challenging to work and cook my own meals (I cooked around 6:30 aM). On my second day, I even got a headache from the heat. For me, the best part was the quiet, rural location. It was exactly what I was looking for. Waking up at 4:30 AM to watch the sunrise and go for a morning walk felt very peaceful, with hardly anyone else around. The dorm beds are a little narrow, but having a private bathroom and AC was a huge plus.

Our stay at the hotel was amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and ready to help out if you have any questions. The work is fair and the hours are respected. We mostly did house keeping which revolved around cleaning rooms/changing sheets. In between work hours there's limitless things to do around the area if you are interested in nature/beach. The electric bikes make the surrounding area super accessible and are very fun to ride around town. Would definitely recommend staying here if given the chance!

First ever volunteering experience and overall was a very good one. There were a couple times where I was confused was to what I was supposed to be doing but the staff are very nice. I was did multiple jobs at the hotel including making beds/cleaning rooms, social media work, and kitchen hand. The location of the hotel is out of town but you are in a beautiful spot. They provide electric bikes and a shuttle service that runs at particular times. Thus there are plenty of opportunities for you to visit Shimoda and/or around the hotel. Would recommend this experience if you enjoy slow travel
