The Experience

As we aim to teach the Matigsalug Tribe to take advantage of their vast forest land, we are looking for respectful volunteers who are passionate in building up the confidence of the local tribes in communicating with the visitors by teaching English. This was my third volunteering experience, and to be honest, it was my favorite so far! The place is amazing the people, the accommodation, everything. We had plenty of food provided. I learned a lot about bamboo construction, and at the same time, it was nice to see how the eco village works. It's not just a bamboo farm; they also work closely with the community. Everyone working there is always happy and welcoming. One great thing is that you can contribute in the area you're most interested in,whether it's farming, construction, or design. Angelo is always there to help you, with a big smile.

An ever evolving example of an alternative Eco-conscious way of living. The property is filled with multiple surreal bamboo structures. For my working hours I spent most of my time landscaping for a community garden for the Matigsalug Tribe. Spent some of my free time playing basketball, singing kareokee, and just getting to learn about their lives and culture. Explored the near by nature too. Learned the basics of bamboo building, permaculture, and earth building from the knowledgeable and kind host Angelo. Also had a beautiful conversation with Rica, about life and the world. Thank you HFS!

We had an amazing time at the eco village. Angelo, our host, went above and beyond to make us feel at home and to give us the best experience possible. Our learning was comprehensive and encompassed theoretical bamboo lectures, practical gardening work and the creative freedom to work on our own bamboo passion projects. Working and learning alongside the Matigsalug tribe was a truly special experience that I will treasure closely. The whole team at the eco village are thoughtful, attentive to detail, welcoming and charming. I wish the best in all endeavours and encourage everyone to visit!
