The Experience

We own a gin distillery on my families estate where we handpick botanicals and use the glens lochs water to make the gin. We run a wee cocktail pop-up bar at my sister and friends Seafood Shack and we are currently renovating a building into a bar, restaurant and moving the distillery from the glen out the back into the beer garden. We are opening at the beginning of July and need people for the final bits before opening!

My time at the host was great! The apartment was comfortable and right in the middle of town. Katie and Laurie are awesome—they gave me great advice about the area and were super easy to work with. I hope they have a great opening soon and wish their family all the best. It was my first Worldpackers experience, and I couldn't have wished for a better one.

This was a fantastic experience for both my husband and I, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone! Katie and Lawrie are such nice and welcoming people, and just great to chat with. The work was very reasonable, organized, and professional. Ullapool is a really cute town with great cafe, restaurant, and shop options. There are also a lot of nice walks nearby and plenty to do right within town. We felt completely comfortable and safe the entire time we were here. Overall, we had an amazing time and would love to return one day!

My time in Ullapool was fantastic. Katie and Lawrie were kind and respectful hosts, welcoming us into their community. Ullapool is a great little town with lots of nature to explore. There is not much public transport in or out of the town, so you have to be prepared to make your own way around - but it is definitely worth it! Katie and Lawrie were very friendly and accommodating. The tasks they assigned were suitable for all and I was grateful that I got the opportunity to learn some new skills!

I couldn't have asked for a better first Worldpackers experience. What an incredible 3 weeks I've had working with Katie and Lawrie! They're genuinely wonderful people—striking the perfect balance between being great hosts and respectful employers. They explained what they needed clearly, involved us in meaningful ways, and completely respected work hours. Food allowance provided was more than fair and the accommodation was a 10/10. I had a great experience at this Workaway. The work hours are fair and the work i did was enjoyable. The apartment was amazing, very high quality with a nice kitchen. I found the town quite nice, although very quiet. I would volunteer here again.
