Description

The big problem we have with the project is that we don't have state or international funding. If you want to work here, you can help by buying materials for the volunteer house, and in this way you can help build a better place for those who help with the project. Such as cement, iron, sand, etc.

The Experience

Help with the construction, carrying materials, mixing cement and sand, in other words, you have to do everything that is needed to be a builder. We have most of the tools. We need your financial cooperation and your strength so that together we can make a more dignified home for the volunteers. Do a fundraiser with your friends or on the internet so that we can finish our project quickly.

Daniel and his family approach their project with all their heart, often they just don't have enough time for a lot. And they really need help. I recommend. Just keep in mind that there will be little food, and if you are used to coffee or large portions, then count on yourself, buy more food. The family is very friendly and open to communication. You will be into the real world of Guatemala. I recommend.

It was an immense pleasure to work with Daniel's daughters Lisbeth and Leila. They made me feel welcome and showed me around the school. The students are 15-21 year old Mayan girls from local communities that are eager to learn and very inquisitive. It was a joy to contribute to their language education and a very rewarding time spent at San Juan! A couple of things that you should be prepared for when volunteering here. The nights get very cold so be sure to bring thermals to make sure you don't wake from the cold at night. The room they provide get frosty (even for a Dutch girl like me).

Daniel replied

Yes friend, thank you for your support in school painting, in English classes, in psychological support for the girls.
God bless you, you sing impressively. We are looking for money to build the volunteer house.

Daniel and his family are as sweet as they are engaged and ambitious. I had to help repainting the classrooms and I had access to all the material needed. You will also be welcomed to eat with the family all three meals (I found quantity ok but if too little for you, you can buy more food in the center which is close by) Daniel needs volunteers who are independent and willing to help, not just sleep and eat for free. There is work to do and it is a beautiful project :) Comfort is basic but again if you are here to help you will have a fulfilling experience with this nice family!

Volunteering here was a great experience! Definitely a wonderful way to be immersed in local culture and languages! The students at the school are all so eager to learn which makes teaching very rewarding. The store was also great because you get to really see how the textiles are made and can be up close with the weaving process. I would definitely recommend to anyone that is looking for a deep cultural immersion with community impact!
