The Experience

We're a small, retro guesthouse with only around six rooms. Right in the middle of one of the most diverse and interesting historic neighbourhoods of Osaka! Lost a bit in a tiny hidden side street, everything you could otherwise want is at a mere stone's throw away. Our goal is to provide clean and comfortable accommodation for guests visiting Osaka, as well as providing opportunities to do language/culture/study exchanges.

It was my first WP experience and I highly recommend it ! the hostel Showa was a very nice place to live in, I will definitely come back. Very cosy, warm and full of wonderful people. The atmosphere is really unique, I met people every day from everywhere. I'm not the social kind at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly and easily. You still have time to visit the surroundings on your days off. I had time for a full 4 day trip to Tokyo ! The manager is okay with switching shifts however you prefer with the other volunteers. Thank you Shu, Kenji and my new friends at the hostel :)

I stayed at the hostel Showa for a month and had a very nice time! I met people from all around the world. Thank you to the kind locals who helped me practice Japanese and for their conversations and tips around Osaka. Shu-san always helped if I had questions and the other volunteers were super nice too. I will miss it all. The hostel itself is located very close to two major subway lines, a 24h grocery store, and Shinsekai. Because of the flexibility of the work schedule, I got to see a lot of Osaka! The shifts were more than manageable because of staff overlap and speedy communication.

The hostel really does feel like a home! The staff cultivates such a close relationship with its guest that many stay long term here. They're all so quick to incorporate you into their family as well! I stayed at the Abeno branch and had so much fun working with steve and kenji. They are both so knowledgeable both in general and about Osaka! As far as work goes, there's a good balance between the long shifts and your days off, but even hanging around the house is fun if you are outgoing and interested in talking to all the guests passing through.

Thank you so much for all your hard work in Abeno ^^ I wasn't able to be involved, but I'm honored if you enjoyed it.

My Friend and I got stationed at the hostel abeno. The Manager Steve was very nice and carring. He explained our Task easy to understand and with patience. Kenji was very supportiv and made the hours feel not so long with his warm presence. Everybody accepted us with open arms. Very warm and relaxing place. We didn't had much to do with Shu but he was always up for a talk. Would recommend 👍
