The Experience

Every day, all year, we harvest food from the garden, which is served to retreat and course guests and volunteers. We make wine and other fermented, healthy drinks such as kombucha and kefir! We make jam, chilli sauces, and fermented foods from our products every week. We also dry herbs for cooking and making tea blends. We are looking for a chef and assistant chef who wants to gain experience running a farm-to-table kitchen.

I would not recommend this stay. Although it is at a the project. The work more seems to be picking up after problems, or just the owner himself, rather than focused on learning and developing new things. The bigger problem seems to be a lack of the owner being able to concentrate on a few tasks, and becoming better at them. So instead, constantly things are being updated, without the basic things working. Also, there is a lack of the community aspect, especially as the owner is very unwilling to share or show care to the volunteers in anyway. I felt more as a body there for labor.

I had a great time at the project. The area is absolutely gorgeous and the farm is amazing. The structure and organisation was kind of messy but overall a good experience. This was my first volunteer experience so my view may be biased. Laurence does try his best to communicate openly and is receptive to feedback as well. I met so many amazing people here and hope to return some day!
