The Experience

Hi, I'm Christine 65 years very actif I like to meet people to go on a hike or event has working in my place, practice Qi Qong and Tai Chi has dancing sometime. I eat organic and mostly homemade. I live in a old stone house surrended by nature in a calm countryside. There is plenty of projects, gardening, landscaping and restauring this medieval house, I am in an ecological approach and this place is socially active. Your help is Welcome.

Christine is such a kind soul and I immediately felt welcomed when I arrived. There's always something to do whether it was visiting nearby villages, going to markets, dancing, hiking or meeting one of her many friends. I recommend learning some French to get to know Christine and her friends better. She's an interesting person and we got to have a lot of great conversations. The work isn't that difficult especially if you're used to landscaping and you get a lot of free time. I was well fed and well taken care of. Her house is so cozy and I loved staying there. I hope to come back again soon!

Christine is a really nice lady. Her home is cozy; however, the bedroom door doesn't lock and there isn't a door to the bathroom but instead just a curtain. Also it can get hot in the bedroom since there is no AC. Work mainly consisted of gardening. I loved the scenery of Southern France and the places that Christine took me to. Be aware though that she might have you do extra stuff on top of your 20 hours. For example, she made me wash her car and do dishes. It was an overall good experience.

I had an incredible time at Christine's! She made me feel very welcome from the beginning! I was able to meet a lot of her friends, try new food, and see the surrounding villages and areas! If you are not used to farm/garden work it may be difficult for you but I had a blast. I would recommend to learn some French so that you can better connect with Christine as well as all the people you will get to meet! Also the accommodation was very cozy and I loved staying in her home. I 100% plan on coming back when I can.

The first week was good. She's a kind person, but in the second week we had a few miscommunications that were made larger because of our language barrier and that created a tension within the house and between us. In the second week there were also multiple occasions where the agreed upon hours, as per worldpackers, were fully exceeded and she tried to lie about the added hours. Thus my second week was not a good exchange. I thank her for having me and the meeting of her friends and neighbors was pleasant.

Christine replied

Je pense que la barrière de la langue n'était pas le principal obstacle, pour moi c'est surtout que nous ne partagions pas assez les mêmes valeurs et que nous manquions d'affinités, c'est ainsi; le hasard des rencontres !

I had a great time at Christine's. The place is beautiful and peaceful. Lots of interesting villages and towns to see around. I could practice French which was my goal. I met Christine's friends, we went hiking and visited some villages together. As for the work, I didn't stay long due to some changes, so I only had a few working days which were mostly working in the garden. It was nice like a meditation but sometimes it can get a little hard and hot. I think that making intervals would be nice to make it easier and more fun.
