The Experience

Our philosophy is based on the idea that food can connect cultures and creates encounters between people. That is why from the beginning in 2016 the project aims at being the bridge between Syrian refugees and permanent residents. Since 2019 we stopped calling those people refugees- it became more a project of different cultures. We all live in our wonderful city. Nowadays we focus on interculture encounters (without borders) and with hearts.

I had a great experience at Elbēn! <3 Both the people at work and the friends you find living in the WG are both friendly and welcoming. Münster in general is a very young and international city so it was easy to get in touch with new people overall. Wonderful chance to learn more about different cultures - not just the german one. The city felt safe and had a lot of cool stuff going on. The work was fun and the working hours were respected. A bit stressful sometimes but still manageable. Really sweet colleagues. Forever grateful for this experience and I hope to be back soon again !!

Volunteering at elbēn was an enriching experience that allowed me to immerse myself in both German and Syrian cultures. The unique blend of traditions, people, and flavors makes it a truly special place. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning about new cultures while gaining practical skills. It's helpful to have some experience in the kitchen or at least be comfortable working quickly and efficiently. Overall, I had an amazing time, and I'm very grateful for everything I learned and the wonderful people I met along the way. Highly recommended!

The experience I had with the project was wonderful. The city is stunning, the room is shared with three other people but is spacious and pleasant, in an excellent location close to the center, with the bikes provided by the host you can see everything in the city. The work is stressful sometimes, but the hours are few each day, so you don't get exhausted and have time and energy to enjoy the city, which is calm, quiet, green and beautiful. Excellent for learning languages and getting to know new cultures and people.

I had an amazing experience at Elbēn... The city is absolutely beautiful and safe, so you can walk around late without a problem, and since the are mostly students there is really fun... The WG was well located near the downtown and you get to talk to a lot of really nice people there. You share room with 2 or 3 people, and despite at the beginning of my stay there was an issue with bets, all was solved really fast... The work at the restaurant is good and you get to meet wonderful coworkers there from all over the world. It was a really good experience.

It was a great experience, I worked with people from different cultures and countries who were very nice and friendly. The working time is very fair, the accommodation is great and the city is very cool and beautiful. Having a bike to explore the city was great too, not everyone there speaks English, so it can be a challenge at first, but it's a good way to develop another language, in this case German. Oh yeah, great food, without a doubt, I'll be back in the near future. :)
