The Experience

My name is Ha. I am from Sapa, Vietnam, and I live in Lao Chai Village, a small Hmong community surrounded by rice terraces and mountains. I started the Hmong English School with one simple dream: to give local children and adults the chance to learn English and open new opportunities for their future. Many people in my village cannot afford extra classes, so I provide a place where they can learn for free with your help.

I stayed with Ha for one month, and it was a truly amazing experience. Ha is one of the most selfless people I have ever met—she goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I had the chance to meet many of her friends, and I genuinely felt like part of her family. the the school she is building is a wonderful asset to the community. You have complete freedom in the classes you teach, and the children are absolutely lovely. You have a lot of freetime to explore the area or even climb the fansipan. I would 100% recommend staying here to experience this amazing place. Thank you Ha!!!

I had an amazing experience in Lao Chai, it was really rewarding and the cultural exchange was higher than my expectations. Ha is one of the kindest host I had, worried about sharing local culture and experiences. She has an incredible heart and is always open to conversations and new ideas. She welcomes you and make you feel like home. The volunteer can be demanding, teching kids requires some energy. But I loved the experience and the kids (and adults) will win your heart. I highly recommend this volunteer to those looking for cultural exchange and are keen to help local communities

Ha was a great host who always looked after any needs that I had and often exceeded expectations with her generosity. The experience of teaching English to the local children in a village close to Sa Pa was very meaningful and satisfying. I truly felt that I made a difference in their lives by being there. I would like to return one day in the future.

5 stars isn't enough for this opportunity. The host, Ha, is now a second mother to me. She is very accommodating and does anything to ensure you're comfortable. She really made this experience unforgettable. Everything from quiet moments sitting around the fire, playing with and teaching the little kids of the village, to singing karaoke made this one of the best experiences of my life. I'll definitely be back. Ha, I love you.
