The experience

My name is Ha. I am from Sapa, Vietnam, and I live in Lao Chai Village, a small Hmong community surrounded by rice terraces and mountains.

Program Details

I opened my school on February 2nd, 2023 with the hopes of providing my community with better education and job opportunities. My own life was changed when a stranger paid for me to go to school, so I understand how important education is and believe that everyone has a right to learn. As my school is completely free, I rely on the kindness of volunteers like you.

In exchange for your help, I offer you the opportunity to stay in a traditional H’mong house with me and my family, eat meals with us, and explore Sapa with free hiking and trekking tours.

I am an experienced host, having had 10 volunteers stay and work with me already and would be happy to provide their contact information upon request if you want to hear about their experience.

Activities & Shift

We have three classes a day: a morning class for younger students from 9-11am, an afternoon class for younger students from 2-4pm, and an evening class for older students from 7-9pm.

We mostly focus on teaching vocabulary and conversation skills however the kids also love to play games. Vocabulary is typically prepared in advance and I will accompany you for at least your first class/es however there will be a lot of independence in this role.

Rules

You must let me/the students know in advance if cancelling classes and you must treat everyone here with respect.
