This experience was my first volunteering abroad and could not be better! The team is very welcoming and the shift was quite easy during the winter. The staff people are reliable and willing. They helped me a lot always with good humor and good energy. I have met lovely people there! The hostel is cool and very well located. The only negative thing that I could say is the size of the bedroom. In fact it was too small for the quantity of volunteers and also not clean enough.

Wonderful experience! The people there made it feel like home, the supervisors are fun and really try to be as helpful as possible. Communication is easy, even with a basic english level. They never asked me to do any kind of dangerous or unpleasent tasks. Working hours can vary per day, but 15h per week are respected with extras days off if needed (I've never worked more than 4,5h in a day). Staff room is ok and it's important to talk to your roomates to organize a weekly cleaning routine. You can usually get free food twice a week and have group meals together sometimes. Best wishes to all!

We had a good time at the hostel. The staff is kind and funny, they make you feel accepted and they also like to organize activities with the volunteers. We helped with cleaning, housekeeping and some painting. The tasks were fine and you can learn during the experience. You can have shared and free food, that contributes to your budget while travelling. The hostel is clean and organized. We have time to improve our English. It could be better to have a regular week schedule so you can plan your personal activities, but it depends on the hostel needs. Thanks the hostel team.

This was my first Worldpackers experience and it completely blew me away. It was beyond my expectations to feel so at home, for the staff became my family, and to contribute to making the hostel a comfortable and fun experience for all guests. I appreciated Tas and Mat's dedication to making sure we were in good hands, to getting some free food for the volunteers and to problem solve promptly as necessary. Some of my favorite experiences were to cook for everyone and with the staff. The only downside is the cold, but hey it's winter! 😉 thank you and I'll see again you soon!

This was my first world packers experience and one ill never forget. I met so many amazing people here. The hours working are super manageable and reasonable and the tasks and jobs aren't hard. Tas the manager brings free food 3 times a week which is very appreciated. One thing to note is since the hostel is in an old church the insulation isn't great and can get quite cold so if you're volunteering over the winter months I highly suggest bringing lots of warm clothes. Overall my experience was good here!

The best part of this volunteer was definitely the people I met here, all the volunteers made my experience unforgettable!! Edinburgh feels like you are in a fairytale indeed. I got in winter season which for me was a bit rough cause I'm not used to this cold. The hostel is cold itself due to its a church, plus the heaters are not very powerful to warm the whole building. The volunteer room is warmer than the halls, however, somedays could be freezing. Tas brings food, which helps you save money. My only advise'd be, keep it professional they are not your mates, that'd make your stay better!

Thank you for the review Karla. To all potential volunteers reading, please take these reviews with a grain of salt, we don't recommend you take Karla's advise about just keeping it professional, the staff can definitely be fun and your friends/family. Karla did not vibe with some staff, possibly because she was sensitive to sarcasm we are not completely sure. Unfortunately not everyone can always get along in a hostel setting. We try to keep it fun and conflict to a minimum here. :)

My time at the hostel was my first volunteering experience and I enjoyed it very much! I've met the most amazing people and was really sad when it was time to leave. The hours were ok and you have enough time to explore the city. What also was very much appreciated, were the food pick ups by Taz. Thanks everyone for turning this into a super fun first experience!

This was my first volunteer experience and I'm glad that was the case! Kitchen, common room, and TV area make for perfect spots to hangout, cook together, play games, organize movie nights etc. The people really made it feel like home and I've made such amazing friends ❤️ The tasks are managable and everybody's happy to lend a hand. You get a bunch of free time, so you can easily check out a lot in and around the city. Taz also brings free food usually once or twice a week, which is great. All in all, thank you to everybody who made this stay as great as it was! Gracias por todo! 🥰

My first ever volunteering experience and I must say that I loved it besides me getting sick. From day 1, the managers made me feel very welcome and explained to me everything that I need to know. If you're really social and open to meet new people you can bond really well with the other volunteers and have a great time. The work is doable and pretty easy. The building is very cold in the winter months so beware, and the staff room of 8 people is also tight and could use improvement. But overall, I had a genuinely good time and met a lot of great people that I'll never forget! 🤗

Overall good time! Work hours were what was agreed upon. Downsides were location is out of the way of any grocery stores which wasn't the most convenient, staff room was a bit claustrophobic with hardly any wiggle room, and as others have said before me the hostel is really cold in the winter. Also fair warning to anyone with injuries or physical limitations: there's stairs to get anywhere (my health app showed an average of 15 flights a day lol). The other staff were great & all in all it was fun.
