Belford Hostel

Our hostel is in a converted church located near Dean Village in Edinburgh’s beautiful West End. It is the perfect place for people looking to meet new people and explore the wonders that Edinburgh and Scotland have to offer!

We are a fun and energetic backpacker’s hostel with a great staff “family” with volunteers from all over the world, including Australia, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy and South Africa. We look after each other, work hard and treat each other and the hostel with respect - we expect the same from our volunteers!

My experience at Belford Hostel was amazing! From the start, I was warmly welcomed by the team, who were always organised and efficient with the schedules and work. The atmosphere is welcoming, and I made lifelong friendships with other volunteers. I’d like to mention the Saturday karaoke nights, which were always fun. The hostel’s kitchen is spacious and functional, and we spent hours cooking and chatting there. A special thank you to Tas and Mat, who were incredible hosts. I hope to return soon!

One of the best things about this volunteering is the quantity of working hours per week, it's lower than other hosts offer, and it's never exceeded. It's also a good opportunity to meet travellers from all around the world. And the hostel itself isn't far from the city centre.
Some aspects to improve is the volunteer's room, which has quite a reduced space. How cold the rooms get during winter time. And the flexibility of the owners/leaders.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me! : )

It is a curious place to start with, I never thought I would live in a hotel-church, a lot of creativity.
The relationship between activities and support for the host is good. The location allows you to get to know and enjoy Edinburgh in all its splendor. Although the sleeping space is fair, the hostel has different areas for free use and the host is usually patient with those of us who are learning the language. My experience was pleasant, I met beautiful people and tried new recipes.
Thanks for everything.

The tasks and work hours are perfect: you have a whole free day ahead! The hostel has a big common area and well equipped kitchen. There were a lot of volunteers so you can have many friends around. And it's only a 10 min walk to the center! We would have roasts every sunday and free food
The downside for me is that the hostel doesn't have proper heating system. It was freezing inside, specially the bathrooms and staff room (the manager tried to help me with that, and I appreciate it), but you needed heavy clothes all the time. I recommend the experience, just to avoid winter time! thnx guys♡
