The Experience

You will be welcomed into our home to live as part of the family. We are a professional married couple living in a Scandinavian style house on a smallholding on the edge of a small village called Dolton in Devon (southwest of England). We need help to care for our gardens, the house, horses and dogs. It is great if you have some experience of horses but not essential - as long as you are aware that looking after horses is physical work.

"I'm grateful for my time volunteering with Yoland and David. They're wonderful people who helped me improve my English and taught me about their passions, including caring for horses. I also enjoyed the company of their playful dogs, Berti and Bailey. Dolton's community is special, filled with friendly and happy people. I've made many friends through activities like crochet, coffee Fridays, and bingo. The retired residents shared fascinating life stories and treated me kindly. My neighbors were welcoming, inviting me to join them for games and dinner."

It is a wonderful experience, from the first day I felt part of the family, and little by little I became part of the community since in the publu there are different activities to socialize, I have improved my English since the community corrects me and speaks to me I can practice all the time

I had a lovely experience in Dolton. Yolande and David made me feel very welcome and appreciated. They are experienced hosts and know how to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The village is very friendly and welcoming as well. As Yolanda told me: 'it's not just us hosting you, it's the entire village.' It was overall an amazing experience.
