If I had to define this volunteer work in one phrase I could say: Is really sad when you have to say goodbye to the hostel and Shuzenji! Thanks Ryohey and Jamie for welcoming me. After a long time trying to being part of your team, I did it! And I was so excited about it! Once I first stepped in the Hostel I knew I was about to have an amazing time. The shifts were easy going, I had enough time to explore the beautiful area with nice spots around and also an awesome place to stay and relax. I hope one day be back and spend more time! Cheers!

Amazing experience, I truly had a great time in Shuzenji. The area is super nice, especially if you enjoy nature and don't mind travelling a few hours to reach bigger cities. The town itself is packed with cute cafes and restaurants. Since it's almost summer now it was too hot to visit the onsens frequently, but there's a nice quiet beach less than an hour away. Jamie and Ryohey were great hosts, super helpful and very organised. Upon arriving volunteers receive a work schedule for the entire stay, and that's been perfect for organising small trips or weekends away. Definitely recommended :)

For my first experience with worldpackers this was ideal. Ryohey and Jamie were so kind and patient. I was sick for a few days during my stay, and they were so wonderful about the situation. On my first days back after being sick they helped me with my responsibilities to make sure I didn't overexert myself. The town and area surrounding are really beautiful; on clear days you get an awesome view of Mt Fuji when you're on the train to/from the station. While the photos don't show the house you stay in, the house was nice and had everything I needed for the month I was there :)

This was such a great experience for my first time using Worldpackers! Rhohey is a great host. He's kind, welcoming, and is always willing to help you out or answer any questions. The work is very easy, especially when you're working with other volunteers. It's a quiet town, but really beautiful if you are intentional about getting to know it. And you can find many things to do if you get comfortable with the nearby train station. Just a warning, the photos you see are not where you'll be staying, but the accommodation wasn't bad. Overall very fun, and I will miss Shuzenji/ the hostel!

The hosts were very nice, respectful and helpfull. I think most of what I experienced that wasnt to my liking was kind of my mistake of just not planning and checking things before hand. I communicated with the hosts and they were very quick to respond to all my issues which I very much appreciate. I also left the experience way earlier because I noticed that I felt like it wasnt for me and the hosts were very respectful about my decision. The work was nice, it was quite easy, and during weekdays we were finished way earlier then 14:00.

This was my first experience as a volunteer and it was amazing! Ryohey-san was the perfect host and either recommended us places to go to or helped us organised an activity 😊. The team was also great and I had the best housemate I could hope for!! Even though Shuzenji is a bit in the countryside, it is not so far from things to do and the transport (bus/train) passes regularly, so it's easy to move. It's also the perfect place to meet locals 😉 All in all I will definitely recommend it!

The experience at the hostel was absolutely amazing. This was my first time using the worldpackers platform and travelling alone. So i was quite nervous at first, but the hostel made this first time incredible. Ryohey, the manager, is an amazing, pleasant, cheerful and a super helpful guy. He always helped us if we had any questions or concerns and gave us some great recommendations. I stayed in a bigger old house together with 1 roommate. The facilities where not extravagant but met all our needs. All in all, I would definitely recommend this experience to other travelers.

The hostel was such a wonderful experience. The host, Ryohey, was amazing; he was friendly, cheerful and helpful. He provided me with lots of information about things to do around Shuzenji, which made my trip very enjoyable. The work was simple and easy to do! The area is also incredibly beautiful, and there are a decent number of places to eat nearby the hostel. Our accommodation was clean and spacious and right by the bus stop that takes you to the station. Thanks so much to Ryohey and Yuki and also the lovely volunteers I worked with! Frankie and Camila you guys were the best!! :)

I had a great experience, I got to meet some wonderful people and also see some very cool places, Izu is so beautiful! The work is quite simple, but it also depends on the number of guests staying, however, it's just a couple of hours a day and you have the whole afternoon for yourself. Ryohey is a kind person and really easy to talk to. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to experience a more rural Japan. The town where the hostel is is very charming and there's a lot to do around. I already miss it. Thank you, Ryohey and Yuki, all the best! :)
