Before going to Japan I was looking for some peace and stability in my life, I immediately realised since the first day that Shuzenji were the perfect place for me. It's all about nature, silence and real life. Ryohey and Jamie completed this harmony with their pure kindness and care. I feel grateful for this amazing adventure and and I highly recommend to all the volunteers around the world to come here and enjoy this lovely place. It's been too short but I'll come back as I said! Ciao ciao Hey and Jamie alla prossima! Tornerò per vedere I tuoi bimbi cresciuti che parleranno 100 lingue! Hahah

I really enjoyed my time in the hostel! Shuzenji Onsen is a lovely little town which feels peaceful and yet lively, as there are always plenty of tourists passing through. You can take buses and trains to other parts of the peninsula, allowing for lots of exploration. Ryohey and Jamie are very friendly, patient, and accommodating, and make a large effort to help when the hostel gets busy. The work itself is manageable, and can range anywhere from 1.5-3 hours. The accommodation I stayed in was a house which I found suitable for a month stay. Thanks again guys! I'm missing it already!

Caitlín, thank you so much for working at Hostel Knot!
She was always on the spot, eager to learn both the work and culture.
We loved seeing you and Maja enjoy the peninsula and hearing your adventures! Glad you were able to enjoy in anyway possible despite during the rainy seasons. Wishing you all the best, and if one of us has the chance to visit Ireland one day, we will definitely contact you!

I am so thankful that I was able to volunteer at the hostel. I don't think it could have been any better. I stayed in a house with the other volunteer (Hi Caitlin) and we immediately became friends and I had an awesome time with her! The shifts were simple (but physically draining sometimes). However, we finished work in less than 2.5 hours most days, so there was enough time to explore! Ryohey and Jaime are awesome people, and they made sure to help on busy days. On the last day, we (me, the other volunteer, Jamie, and some locals) went to a Karaoke and it was so much fun!!

Maja, thank you for working with us and choosing Shuzenji. We were so glad to see you and Caitlín become instant friends and enjoy your time sharing houses, working together, and seeing both of you exploring Izu Peninsula. We loved hearing your walks around the town and the neighbor cities. Hope you continue striving and hope to see you again! ありがとう&またね!

I waited two weeks after my time there to write this so I could fully understand how I felt about my experience at the hostel. Phenomenal is not a strong enough word, it was truly an amazing time and Ryohey & Jamie are wonderful to work alongside, and also fun to spend time with. The work day process is pretty straightforward and most days you will likely be finished early. Even on the slowest days you will still likely be done with everything close to or before 2pm with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day and explore Shuzenji or wherever you decide to go!Visit the cafes and bars!

The best one month in my life! Everything was perfect! Jamie and Ryohey are most caring and supportive people. Jamie always helped me to improve my japanese skills and when i had even the slightest problem Ryohey came and helped me. They made sure we are feeling good and they introduced us to the locals. I know now so many people there, so many new friends. Shuzenji Onsen is a little treasure box with full of nature and nice people. When I left I even cried, because I don't wanted to wake up from this dream. The work was also quite easy! The house was pretty old but good. :)

If I had to define this volunteer work in one phrase I could say: Is really sad when you have to say goodbye to the hostel and Shuzenji! Thanks Ryohey and Jamie for welcoming me. After a long time trying to being part of your team, I did it! And I was so excited about it! Once I first stepped in the Hostel I knew I was about to have an amazing time. The shifts were easy going, I had enough time to explore the beautiful area with nice spots around and also an awesome place to stay and relax. I hope one day be back and spend more time! Cheers!

Amazing experience, I truly had a great time in Shuzenji. The area is super nice, especially if you enjoy nature and don't mind travelling a few hours to reach bigger cities. The town itself is packed with cute cafes and restaurants. Since it's almost summer now it was too hot to visit the onsens frequently, but there's a nice quiet beach less than an hour away. Jamie and Ryohey were great hosts, super helpful and very organised. Upon arriving volunteers receive a work schedule for the entire stay, and that's been perfect for organising small trips or weekends away. Definitely recommended :)

For my first experience with worldpackers this was ideal. Ryohey and Jamie were so kind and patient. I was sick for a few days during my stay, and they were so wonderful about the situation. On my first days back after being sick they helped me with my responsibilities to make sure I didn't overexert myself. The town and area surrounding are really beautiful; on clear days you get an awesome view of Mt Fuji when you're on the train to/from the station. While the photos don't show the house you stay in, the house was nice and had everything I needed for the month I was there :)

This was such a great experience for my first time using Worldpackers! Rhohey is a great host. He's kind, welcoming, and is always willing to help you out or answer any questions. The work is very easy, especially when you're working with other volunteers. It's a quiet town, but really beautiful if you are intentional about getting to know it. And you can find many things to do if you get comfortable with the nearby train station. Just a warning, the photos you see are not where you'll be staying, but the accommodation wasn't bad. Overall very fun, and I will miss Shuzenji/ the hostel!
