Hostel in an old Traditional Onsen in Izu, 【Female only】

I had a really nice experience! Volunteers get a private room in an apartment about 10 minutes walk from the hostel, so cleanliness depends on the people staying with. 7-Eleven is 7 minutes away, a big supermarket is 10 minutes by car, and Ryohey kindly took us shopping once a week. The area is very quiet — perfect for those seeking peace and a slower pace. Public transport isn't great and there's not much to do nearby, so plan ahead if you looking to travel. Thanks so much to the amazing girls I stayed with — love you all and miss you already!

I recommend it 100%!! I've had a fantastic, relaxed and peaceful month in Shuzenji. Both Jamie and Ryohey are lovely!! The town is beautiful but small and there isn't much to do, but with the bus, you can explore the Izu Peninsula. The schedule and the days off they offer are more than fair. Very grateful! 🙏🏽

I had a wonderful time staying in the lovely town of Shuzenji. Ryohey and Jamie were so welcoming and truly made me feel at home. The work was easy and we would usually finish in just a couple hours and have the rest of the day to relax and explore the beautiful nature in the surrounding area. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who is considering it and wouldn't change a thing!

The hostel was my first experience with Worldpackers and the reason why I will definitely continue using it. I had an incredible time. Jamie and Ryohey take a lot of time to train new volunteers. They are extremely friendly, making it easy to ask questions and not be afraid of making mistakes. The atmosphere is great, and they are always helpful if you need anything. Since I'm learning Japanese, I had a lot of questions, and they were always happy to answer and help me. This Worldpackers experience is also special because you get a private room. The work is super easy. Thank you for the time!

It was a pleasure to have Sema be on our team and watching her adapt to the life in the countryside of Japan. She was always caring and always giving. She made sure the new volunteers were comfortable as well. Overall it was great to have her around and always eager to learn about the Japanese culture. Glad you had a great time in Izu! Continue to enjoy your adventures!

I had such a lovely time during my 5 weeks at the hostel! The work load was very fair and never strenuous, most of the time we finished way earlier than the 'official' work hours suggested. Ryohey and Jamie were so welcoming and always ready to help or give advice. The house where volunteers stay at is a short walk away from the hostel and I had an amazing time there spending the evenings together with the other volunteers. Shuzenji is a cute little town surrounded by beautiful nature and there is plenty to do for people who love the outdoors. Thanks for everything! 🙏

My time in Izu was an amazing experience! The work is simple, the hours respected, the hosts are very welcoming and ready to listen if you have any questions. My favorite part was how warm this little town is, there's plenty of opportunities to interact with the locals and they are the kindest people you'll meet. Without even speaking the same language, they all made me feel right at home and I'll never forget my time with them. If you're looking for a peaceful place, where you can make friends everywhere while exploring nature, this is the perfect experience for you! Thank you again!

It was a pleasure to have Anaïs work with us and see how she enjoyed her life in Shuzenji, Izu. She always had a smile on her, always eager to help, and always lightened the mood. She always had a notebook with her and always excited to learn a new word or phrase in Japanese. All the locals in the area would tell us their experience with her as well. We will miss her dearly and hope to have her visit us again. Thank you so much!

I am very grateful for this experience! Shuzenji is a sweet pocket place where all world troubles feel far away. Everyone I met was very sweet and kind. I'd say that people here are very accepting and even though you are a foreigner, you are not treated like one. Jamie and Ryohey care about volunteers and their experience here. They always try to help and do all they can to make volunteers feel comfortable and welcome. I am very thankful for that and glad to have met them:) Also, I had a wonderful time with my fellow volunteers whom I hope to see again! Thank you for all the time and talks!

It was a pleasure to have Katryna. She and another volunteer helped us out way beyond our expectations. They were actually one of the few volunteers that were able to stay for more than a month. Which is always a plus for us when you can stay longer. We were able to trust and have them take care of the work load in the morning while we do other errands. We were really sad for Katryna to leave Shuzenji, but hope someday to meet her again. Thank you so much for choosing Hostel Knot and Shuzenji!!

Incredible experience!!!, I enjoyed every moment of being in this project because it gave me the opportunity to meet wonderful people (staff, volunteers, neightbors, hosts), I was able to visit surprising natural places meanly and I was relaxed the entire time, onsen helped me with this too. The food and desserts are amazing and all the people around are really friendly. I learned a lot of japanese culture and I love it. Thank you all,,, Ryohey, Jamie and Haru for sharing a small part of YOU.

My time at the hostel has been unforgettable! Shuzenji Onsen was a wonderful quiet town with its misty mountains, foot onsen by the river, and warm, welcoming locals. The work was light—less than 4 hours per day—leaving plenty of time to explore the peninsula, the beautiful rice and wasabi fields, savor matcha in cozy cafe, and spend time with fellow volunteers (shoutout to Taniaui and Valeui ;). I'll miss the quirky chats with the ladies at the onsen, the yoga session with Haru, and the dinner with Ryohey, Jamie, and the team. Thank you for everything, and until we meet again!
