Thank you so much UGH! this was my first world packers experience and it was amazing. i would recommend this to anyone, from first time volunteers to regular volunteers. Thank you to Izzy, Ale, Marcus, Kessya and all the volunteers for making this experience a 10/10. The hostel is clean and in a great location. The shifts are straightforward and very easy to get the hang of. I would definitely come again and it is going to be very hard to say goodbye!!! Obrigado! ❤️

Was so nice I did it twice :) This time I did Night Shift (2 nights on, 4 nights off) and was able to study while doing so. Thank you to the UGH team I'll miss everyone dearly and hope to come back in the future 🫶

It was a valuable experience, with both good & challenging moments. The team of volunteers, staff, & cleaning crew gives this place its heart. Each person contributes to keeping the hostel alive & thriving. It's also a safe place for queer people. During my time there, there were some challenges that the managers had to solve, & not every solution was ideal. Towards the end, there were volunteers in the team who couldn't speak English or only spoke very little. I think they're really great, but at times, a lot of Portuguese was spoken, which made being part of the team a bit more difficult.

I loved my time at UGH, I made wonderful connections with the other volunteers and felt at home. The work is totally fine and relatively easy most of the time. During my time the shift schedule also changed, which led to more free time which I really appreciated. Communication was sometimes a bit unclear and unorganised, but that was also caused by external circumstances and limitations of the place. That there is no place for volunteers to be after midnight was also pretty sad. The team makes this place an amazing and connective place, thank you so much to Ale, Kip and Kessya for everything.

My experience at the hostel was a truly life changing experience in many ways. I found many great friends and built genuine connections with other volunteers. Most of the task of the night shift are as explained on here. However in my opinion this shift should not be done by just one volunteer. I experienced many intense situations which a volunteer is not trained for. Sadly in these situations I felt a huge lack of support and genuine caring. This lack was also noticeable in the communication which was often based on beneficiary intentions.

I had a great time during my 5 weeks stay, I did the night shift (3 nights of work 6 days off) and it was a great choice for me - way more free time, less hard work. Overall I'd rate my stay highly but mostly due to the amazing people I've met there, the volunteers were like a family. I won't give the experience 5 stars as the hostel in itself is badly organized which often caused problems for the volunteers. Moreover, after midnight there is no place for volunteers to hangout outside the bedroom which caused some conflicts between volunteers and management. But the staff is really nice!

It's a welcome and chill atmosphere with the employees and volunteers. Everybody is friendly and respectful. It's a nice experience for new volunteers. First two or three days can be confusing, but afterwards you get everything. It's a great experience for meeting people and doing party. Thanks

My time at UGH was amazing. As soon as I arrived I felt immediately welcomed by the other volunteers and the staff as well. My only problem was the food they provide: it is not enough for all the volunteers, so if you are traveling on a budget like me, this is a factor to count with. Overall my priority was the atmosphere of the place and the connections I was able to make, so I left with nothing but good memories and I would absolutely return in the future. Thank you so much for this experience UGH Team!❤️❤️

Thank you the hostel for the experience! I did find the work to be physically demanding even during low season. We made around 30 beds per shift, but it is 40-50 beds during peak season. There is another building down the street that we had to walk to multiple times during a shift. The posting says 25h/week and 3 days off per week, but the hours are sometimes more, up to 30 hours, and it is often 2 days off per week not 3. I wish the hostel+team the absolute best! I met some really amazing people and still had a good time overall. Thank you again <3

Heyy! This was my second volunteering experience. I met so many great people ❤️ We were 8 volunteers(the best part🥂). The work is: doing the beds it was usually between 30-50 beds and it was always for 2 people, then helping with check-ins and showing guests around, they also have a second building which is few minutes up the street. I personally felt sometimes really exhausted after the work so just keep in mind that sometimes it can feel like a normal job. Also the food they provided wasn't usually enough. Anyway the UGH team is great and they are trying to listen to us!Thank you!! ❤️
