It was amazing! Claas is german, so please don't think for even a moment that he is rude. He will treat you with patience even if you ask dumb questions and he will love you as long as you do what you are supposed to do! I can not even describe how grateful I am to get to know him. And please, don't think this is hard work but don't expect to just do nothing. Also, please ignore the absurd bad reviews people without an ounce of basic human skills wrote here!

Incredible experience in the capital of the hostel. Tirana has a lot to offer.the hostel has great location to enjoy Tirana and surroundings! Class is a beautiful human being, open, smart and flexible. He cooks some nights and other nights he provides supplies. I was there in the low season so the work was very quiet with cleaning and daily organization. alternating between 3 shifts morning, afternoon and night. you will find a lot of exchange of experiences and open mind conversations. thank you for turning this exchange into a positive and unique experience. I will miss you a lot

I had and amazing time at the hostel! Class is a super friendly host and a great cook. Tasks were easy to do and the shifts were always really flexible. I got closer and had a great time with the other volunteers. Tirana surprised me, in a good way!

I was supposed to stay only for 2 weeks but ended up staying for a month. This was my first volunteering experience and couldn't be more grateful. The tasks are pretty simple and the atmosphere in the hostel (even in the off-season) it's amazing. Also, Tirana it's full of amazing places! 🥰

I had a good experience at the hostel:) I do think that the hostel is due for an updated booking system rather then the physical check in folders that we used, however it was manageable. Class was easy to reach even when he was not at the hostel, and was very helpful in terms of planning small trips on days off! In terms of food, the volunteers were given the equivalent of roughly 10 Euros each per week for groceries, which covered basic meals. The other volunteers really made the stay worth it, and I will remain friends with them for a long time.

I enjoyed my time here, tasks were simple and manageable. 4 days on (rotated between am, mid + pm shift) with 3 days off in a row to allow time to explore. Easy and fun to socialize with guests and fellow volunteers. Some negatives, the room for the volunteers is also the storage space for cleaning supplies, linens and guests luggage so it was not a very homey space. Often crowded with stuff and who ever was working was constantly in and out so not easy to break from “work mode”. The handwritten booking system could use an update to reduce errors and last minute stressful text exchanges.

Pros: Central location/homey - You learn a lot about how to travel around the hostel. - Helping other travelers is meaningful. - Volunteers are supportive, joyful & silly! Other: Books are hand written so things go awry. Be prepared to improvise! - The 2 meals a day didn't meet my expectations. Fine if you're ok eating mainly dry/canned foods or are in a position to supplement the ingredients provided. Keep in mind the volunteers (3-6 people) only have a 4-ft high fridge for perishables. - Communication with Claas can be tense. However a sincere apology was always given afterwards.

Hey Fiona...
First...there is not only canned food. But there are cans and lots more for our volunteers. If the meals didn't meet ur expectations it might be that it has something to do with your allergies and all the foods you don't eat. You applied for three months and didn't tell us before that you have a special diet.
As you know volunteers have a food budget and can buy what they like to eat. If the budget is not enough to buy all the expensive things you need for your diet then we are sorry...
And as it was your first time volunteering we hope that you get a few more experiences so you can be in a position to judge us better because it's a very good place for volunteers...

I absolutely loved my time at Homestel. Claas the owner is very helpful, he makes sure the safety of the volunteers is a priority, his understanding when it comes to shifts & will work with you if you'd like to plan things on your days off & make sure you have the time. Usually 4 days on & 3 days off. The morning shift was a bit much sometimes for one person but the other volunteers would help even though off shift. Claas was very pleased to see the teamwork. The booking system is a little tricky but Claas is always very contactable which makes it easier. I loved it, would go back & recommend

I had a good experience, I was able to explore and get to know to her travelers. The 3days off are perfect to travel to other cities. The location is perfect since you can find everything you need by walking. The tasks are relatively easy and you learn quickly how to do them. There's no water for the volunteers so you have to buy. The kitchen is available and there's food to prepare (although another volunteer had to ask because there're not always the basics). Dont take anything personally that communication with Class is sometimes not good and it's a point that could be improved. Thank you!
