The Experience

We´re a Bolivian-Dutch family with two children (5 and 7 yrs), we opened our hostel in october 2016 in Samaipata. Located on 10 minutes by foot from the main square and market, with a magnificent view over the green mountains and the village Samaipata. Helping out with preparing the breakfast, general maintenance, interaction with our guests, learn new skills/improve your english/spanish language. Our place is a good spot for relaxing in general

I had a good time at the hostel as it is very cozy and the property has plenty of nature to enjoy. There is always fresh veggies, rice, & pasta. Bert and his family are very welcoming and make a point of knowing all of the guests by name. The market is a 10 minute walk from the hostel. Make sure to bring enough cash because you cannot withdrawal money through xoom/remitly (there is an atm but the exchange rate is poor). Bert is understanding and as long as you communicate you'll have a great time. P.S. the view is spectacular (day & night)

We had a great time volunteering here. The hostel itself is lovely with loads of places to relax, there is a beautiful garden and the included breakfast is really nice. We enjoyed getting to know the owner Bert and he was fun to work with. The volunteer work was fair and not overly physical. Bert has family commitments so sometimes needs you to watch the hostel whilst he is busy or out, this may be outside of your agreed hours but we didn't mind helping out. Samaipata is a cute town with lots of good local hikes, cafes and a some good fruit and vegetable markets. We would recommend!

My three weeks volunteer was great. Bert welcomed me with open arms upon my arrival. The cleaning tasks were simple, and you interact with travelers supporting and guiding them throughout their stay– feeling of a family hostel. Make sure to ask for your days off. Be open-minded and flexible, especially as a woman, don't forget to stand your ground and speak your truth. Although dinner is not provided per say, Bert does purchase vegetables for you to cook your meal in a very functional shared kitchen. The town, garden & hostel bring you a level of peace - A magical place nestled in Bolivia!

We had an great time volunteering at the hostel. It's a beautiful place to spend time. Tasks are straight forward, mainly cleaning, checking-in guests and helping with guest queries. Be sure to agree days off in advance as there are some many great hikes in the local area. Bert was flexible and accommodating!
