The Experience

Fernando is a very kind host. I felt that it was important for him that I feel me comfortable. Evenmore he had always an open ear, if there was anything I needed. I really appreciate that he always helped me, when I asked him something, for example to translate my CV in Spanish and he gave me much information about Cádiz. On the one hand in general about the city and its history but as well, when I wanted to know something e.g. where I can find locations for dancing Salsa. One thing that I didn't like in the hostel was, that the building was really cold inside (my stay was in February).

The hostel is in the centre of Cadiz, so its position is very good. Fernando, Ago and Feña are amazing, although I've been with them for a short time, they have helped me since the first day I got there. The work in general is not difficult, there are some days were it's heavier because of the check-ins and out. If you are used to hostels, the accommodation is ok. I think that hostels are not for me, but it has been an amazing experience the same! I hope to come back soon to Cadiz, to enjoy other nights there! Thank you so much Fernando, it's been a pleasure and thank you for the gift!

As first experience as a volunteer it couldnt be better. The working hours are balanced leaving you lots of time to explore Cadiz and meeting people. The work is easy and straightforward. You can practice both your english and spanish. I felt welcomed by Fernando who facilitated the introduction to local places. I left with Cadiz in my heart! Hasta la vista Cadiz!

Unfortunately I didn't have the experience i expected.. It wasn't all to bad but most of the time I was/felt alone. I also experienced a weird vibe from the owner… he once told me: „women see better then men, what there is to clean“ when asking me to help clean the studio he was staying in and didn't seem to want male volunteers. He also hooked up with several guests (women) wich doesn't seem very professional to me. I'm not trying to shine a bad light on the experience, place and the owner. I just think future Volunteers know how my experience was. I truly hope your stay will be better!:)

Hi Joe, I'll start at the end. Saying that you don't want to say something is saying it, but I'm not going to talk about perlocutionary acts or linguistics because it's not the place.

The bad vibe of the last day, when you left the day before without saying anything, is because I felt offended by a message from you and I already explained to you in the meeting that we all had what I felt. I once told you that "women see better what needs to be cleaned than men" is not entirely accurate. I told you that women (in general) see or detect dirt better than men (in general), it's not a matter of machismo, it's a matter of perception and consideration. Just as I tell you that people from Italy clean better than those from France in general (then each person is a world).

I'm sorry if you felt lonely, I invited you to every concert at the bar and when we went out partying all the staff with the guests also invited you to come... you're the one who never wanted to.

And finally, the appreciation of my personal life, outside my work hours and the stay of the guests, is mine and I can do what I want. Just like your single colleagues, they also became intimate with some guest or with colleagues from other hostels...

From here I invite everyone who reads this review to read the review that we have made of you because there are only nice words and reviews of your positive points, because I think that to say something bad about someone it is better not to say anything.: There were things outside the position that could be done because the materials were there, like making a mural in the well, or in the bedroom, or retouching the bumps on the walls with paint that when you spent 2 hours on turn with your arms crossed you could have done but it was better to be reading, watching a series in the bedroom or talking on the phone. As I told you, I am a permissive person and very little strict, but when my limits are exceeded, all my friendship is lost. Making veiled innuendos about inappropriate things is inappropriate in itself.

It was a very pleasant experience. It was low-season in Cadiz, so there were not many people around. So if you are looking for a party/social hostel, maybe it is not the place to be (in November at least, I guess in summer is another story). But the tasks were very easy and rapid. A very HONEST work exchange. If you need time for yourself to study or relax, that's the place to be. Fernando is a very nice person. The place is very very clean, good position. Recommended!
