Skålsjögårdens friluftsförening

Skålsjögården is a place with a long tradition of outdoor activities. Beautifully situated in the middle of nature. There is a lodge with a restaurant, a hiking trail system, cross-country ski and snowmobile trails in winter and much more. All of this requires maintenance, which we organize through volunteering. A stay with us is a stay in the middle of nature, but with all the amenities of modern life.

The place is run by ourselves. We are a family of 7 with 5 children. We mostly have young people as volunteers, who live in their own accommodation in single rooms. The family concept is very important to us, so we try to see the whole team as an extended part of the family.

I had a wonderful time at the Timber Lodge !
Jonas and Sabrina are kind and good-natured people who make it a priority that everyone's needs are met. They communicate very clearly and openly, the working hours and tasks are fair and mistakes are seen as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than an issue. During my time there, I truly felt like I was part of a team and I was able to learn and experience so many new things. The nature around the Lodge is also incredibly beautiful, and the hosts are happy to recommend things to do in the area, so there is plenty to explore on your days off !

I had a phenomenal Workpackers experience here! The lodge is stunning, surrounded by forest, and I loved spending some of my free time hiking. Sabrina and Jonas were incredibly warm, welcoming, and supportive. They focus on open communication, and this makes everything run smoothly. I was there before Christmas and helped in the kitchen preparing for the Julbord buffet. It was a busy time with longer days, but extra hours were always balanced with time off. The work was hard but rewarding and I especially loved the baking. Jonas and Sabrina made me feel like I was part of their family!

The time with Jonas & Sabrina in Skålsjögarden in the rural region of Hälsingland was truly exceptional. They give their best to meet everyones needs while managing 5 kids and their business. They communicate very clearly about the work schedule and ToDos. They trust you and your skills, which makes it a pleasure to work with them. And even if you need help or make a mistake, they are kind and supportive. I was able to connect with nature, locals as well as two other amazing volunteers at their place. I experienced and shared countless moments of joy in my stay. My greatest recommendation!

This was my first Worldpackers experience and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to slow down and reconnect with nature. The volunteers quarters are cosy and well-equipped and the food is really good. I was there in off season so the restaurant was only open on the weekends so I usually did the dishwashing on Saturday and Sunday and the other working days consisted of varied tasks like: deep cleaning, preparing rooms, outside work...
After work and on free days there is the possibility to walk in the forests or to take the car so I recommend having a drivers license before coming here.

Great first worldpacker experience! Work really depends on the season, I joined in October (off season) and mainly deep cleaned or helped in the kitchen when the restaurant was open. The work can be tough but fair. You have your own volunteer house with your own room, depending on the day you can also cook there. On free days you can use the car to explore the areas around. Know that everything is around an hour driving (store is 20 min by car). Best wishes to the soon family of 6! :)
