Burntwood

We live in a beautiful part of Cornwall surrounded by woods and close to Bodmin Moor. Activities at the property include gardening; collecting, splitting and stacking logs; woodland clearing; pond maintenance; bramble clearing; house cleaning and possibly help with film making. There is no average day, volunteers can select from the jobs that need doing. Breakfast is usually home made cereal, toast from home made bread and tea or coffee. My wife is vegetarian so lunch is vegetarian, she does not eat in the evening so the evening meal sometimes includes meat. We have a spare room with 2 single beds and they can be joined to make a large double bed. There are many walks locally, particularly on Bodmin Moor. We go swimming in the sea at Portwrinkle.

My wife and I live at the property and we have one cat. On an annual basis we rear 2 pigs. I am a retired Professor of film, have worked commercially directing TV ads and made film installations and many short, experimental films. My films can be seen on my website www.tonyhillfilms.com. I enjoy cooking, so all food is cooked from fresh ingredients. My wife is a retired teacher and most recently was teaching English to foreign students. We have happily hosted many volunteers over the last 17 years. We try to live as sustainably as possible and our Ecohouse performs well. Part of the house is rented for holiday accommodation on AirBnB. The house was Highly Commended for Sustainability in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors SW Awards 2010 and shortlisted for the Cornwall Sustainability Awards

We had a great time at Burntwood. Tony and Pat were very welcoming and accomodating hosts. All of our meals were delicious and we often enjoyed a good discussion around the table. Hours and work were very reasonable and we always had plenty of rest.

My experience at Burntwood as my first ever volunteer job was truly amazing.
Tony & Pat welcomed us very warmly, the food was amazing and the work was very easy! Talking to them and helping in their beautiful home also teached us so much about environment awareness and the importance of our nature.
We would love to come back one day!

Tony & Pat made us feel very comfortable and welcome! The work was fun and easily manageable, we learned a lot. We also had enough time to explore cornwall on our days off. A wonderful experience!

My volunteering at Burntwood was a great experience for me! Tony and Pat are very kind, Tony took me to the train station when needed and gave me some recommendations what to do on my days off.
The work wasn't very difficult.
Meals were really delicious, private room was provided and the surrounding garden and forests were calming.
I can really recommend this volunteering experience👍
