Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI)
Soma Kwa Furaha is a Swahili phrase meaning “Read with Joy.” It reflects our belief that learning should be approached with happiness, enthusiasm, and a genuine sense of fulfilment. We promote the idea that learning should be an enjoyable and empowering experience for every child. SKFI was born out of the vision of A society where every vulnerable child, including those with special needs, has equal access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities to thrive in a safe and inclusive environment.
At Soma Kwa Furaha Initiative (SKFI), based in Mwanza, the heart of Tanzania’s beautiful Lake Zone region, volunteers have a unique opportunity to create a lasting impact in the lives of vulnerable children, especially those with special needs. Our programs focus on promoting inclusive education to advocate for children’s rights, to improve access to child healthcare, to promote gender equality and to economically empower families of vulnerable children, all aimed at building a more inclusive, compassionate, and self-reliant community.
Volunteering with us means becoming part of a passionate team dedicated to helping children thrive regardless of their background or ability. You'll work directly with local families, teachers, and caregivers, contributing to educational workshops, play-based learning, nutrition programs, and women-led initiatives.
Mwanza is the second-largest city in Tanzania and sits along the scenic shores of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. Known for its warm hospitality, rich Sukuma culture, and breathtaking landscapes, Mwanza offers a safe, vibrant setting for volunteers. It’s an ideal place for those who seek both purpose and adventure—whether exploring rocky hills, visiting fishing communities, or participating in cultural events.
By volunteering with SKFI, you’re not just giving your time—you’re joining a growing movement that believes every child, regardless of ability or status, deserves a joyful, safe, and supportive environment to reach their full potential.
We offer the following awards to volunteers at the end:
1. Certificate of appreciation(Appreciation letter)
2. Certificate of volunteering
3. Volunteering recommendation letter (on request)
