Maka Hostel was truly an unforgettable experience. I learned new things, got to know Oaxaca more deeply, and made friends both locally and from all over the world. I have so many special memories thanks to Maka. If you’re considering doing a volunteering experience, Maka is and will always be the best option in Oaxaca—I 100% recommend it. This was the first hostel I have worked at and it was the most amazing experience. I have made life long friends, learnt about Oaxacan culture and built on my hospitality skills. If you want set days off you can request them and if you feel more comfortable working on bar than reception then Yoka will take that into account. The beds are super comfortable and the guests were great. I met the owners during my stay who are also very lovely and cool.

as the other reviews demonstrate, Maka becomes your home away from home<3 i loved everyone i met along the way and special shout-out to the volunteers: shakes (+ shannon), fleebs, schmelvin, donteeeazyyy, scooby, ale, lino, and yokaaaaaa… i miss u guys so much already! anyways, i love love LOVE maka and would recommend to anyone!

This was my first volunteer experience and I wouldn’t change a thing! The host was clear and direct with what was expected of me and went above and beyond for my experience. I’ve created memories and friendships I will never forget. Thank you for everything Maka!! See you again some day☺️
