Excellent English Learning Center

Excellent English Learning Center is located in my house, in Bondowoso, East Java. This small town is a peaceful place and close to nature. The volunteers will live in my house with my family and me. They will have a chance to experience local life style, shopping in traditional market, looking around the city and meeting local people at spare time. The traveller will understand how locals learn English. The volunteers need to be patient and friendly because the children might be shy to meet foreigners. Native speakers are most welcomed. However, if you are non native but have great English spoken and teaching skill, yes please! The volunteers will be taught Indonesian Language if they wish. We also provide private floor with bedroom, bathroom and balcony for the volunteer in my house.

IMPORTANT: Unfortunetaly, I cannot accept unmarried couple.

How to reach my location:
From Surabaya / Juanda Airport - I reccomend an open travel "Dieng Travel Bondowoso" I will give you its whatssap number. They pick you up in the airport usually at 4 PM and drive you right to my house. However, you need to wait for some hours in the airport because it is an open travel not private that is why it is cheap and airport is the last pick up route.
Noted: You pay your self for this.

There is no train station in Bondowoso, if you go by train, you will drop in Jember. You can take a grab car from Jember to Bondowoso

I am Elen the owner of Excellent English course. The classrooms are located in my own house so not far away to go. English is highly demanded in this area. I'm looking for volunteers to help me teaching children. The volunteer need to be calm, patient and kid friendly. Perhaps, it will be a bit effort to teach kid at age 5-6 because they like to play. Let's do both playing while learning English. Besides, I need the volunteer's help to clean the classroom before we begin the class. Let's do it together. At my home, there are my husband, my mom, my toddler son and me. We will treat the volunteer as our family. I am the only one that speaks English but my family is eager to communicate with you too. IMPORTANT: House rules: no drinking alcohol, drugs, weapons or ostensible LGBT items and no smoking inside my home. We will provide local food for 3x meals per day. If you are vegetarian or vegan it is no problem, please let me know. We also provide private floor with bedroom, bathroom and balcony for the volunteer in my house. Thanks for your kindness! The children are very sweet and enjoy spending time with us. You experience Bondowoso city and can go get coffees or walk around the streets. Lots of locals asking for photos/ want to know where you are from and are interested in talking to you. Classes are in the afternoon/ evening so you have mornings to rest and explore. Elen lets you rest if you feel you need it and lets you teach the way you want and create your own powerpoints/ lessons for the children. I will miss the children as you grow close relationships with some and even get offered food/ treats from parents :)

I had a really good time with the students and enjoyed getting to know them. I had to come up with PowerPoints and worksheets to support the classes. I would mostly do the classes alone so I had to use creativity to come up with work to do for an hour! You should know that there is no shower, so the bucket and water tank is the way to go! About the food, it sometimes sits out on the conter for a period of time, it could be tricky for stomachs that are not used to that! Bondowoso is a small town, so beauty salon, market and movies are the things to do here. Elen is a very nice person.

I thought you have read properly my description that Bondowoso is a small city and my bathroom. You didn't tell me regarding the food that I wasted them because you didn't eat it. Sorry if maybe some experiences here didn't meet your expectation. But thanks for your helps. On the other hand you helped me with classes. I appreciate it.

Elen is a great host. As a person she is fun and kindhearted and understanding.
As a teacher she is very patient with the kids and passionate about teaching English.
I have been welcomed with so much kindness from her and her family. She arranged a very nice private room for me, spacious and clean. The food she and her mom cooked for me was delicious. I definitely recommend this volunteering experience not only for teaching English but also living like a local experience.

My experience in Bondowoso has been quite something, especially considering that it was my first time in Asia. I’ve been immersed in the local culture from the very first day.
The school is an amazing way to get to know the kids and even their parents.
Last, but not least, Elen has been very welcoming even before my arrival.
She’s very caregiving and respectful.
It’s has been an amazing experience!

A volunteering stay in Bondowoso is exactly what volunteering abroad is all about. The kids are great and you’ll get a cultural exchange of all the little city of Bondowoso has to offer. Elen will show you some nearby local sights and I even spent our day out with the whole family. The kids warm up to you and are super sweet and a fun experience teaching many english levels. Would definitely recommend
