Columbus Rooftop Hostel

At Columbus you will join part of a huge community of Gran Canaria island.

Our place is fun, sunny most of the time during the year. The island has a lot of micro climates, you can enjoy hiking in mountains, different types of sport, socialising with guests, find new friends.

Volunteers are part of the hostel family, we make sure they have everything they need to feel comfortable here. To extend their skill, comfort zone, language exchange, travelling experiences. Here you will get to know a wider variety of people doing the exact same thing as you, join part of a wider community on the island, get involved.

First and foremost in the building everybody is treated with complete and utter respect. Kindness and compassion is what we show to each other. Our strength is our location and the vibes. You will be part of a family, if this is going to be your first adventure, dont worry, we are going to take care of you :) We have a maximum stay policy of 2 months, but are always open to great people returning to us.

The social volunteer role was super fun. I really enjoyed getting the guests and volunteers together for the weekly activities. The hostel itself is great in a fantastic location. The perks of a free stay in a hostel in the mountains plus discounted surf lessons were a bonus!

I did volunteer work between July and August. Since it was the low season, the tasks required were not only simple and repetitive but also not too demanding. They mostly involved cleaning and reception work. As a result, I had plenty of free time for myself.
The experience was really great. I met lots of friendly people from all over the world, improved my English, and tried new things.
I definitely recommend this kind of adventure. It’s a perfect way to broaden your horizons, meet new people, make friends, and explore the island.

I can’t explain how grateful I am for this volunteering experience at Columbus. I had the best time and was really lucky with the amazing group I spent the month with, I wouldn’t change a thing! The only small downside is that there are cockroaches, but the hostel is actively working on solving this issue. Apart from that, I would recommend this place to everyone. Thank you so much for the wonderful time I could spend here and to all the volunteers, I truly had the best experience! 💗 thank you
