The Experience

Ken workers needed for painting and decorating my gîte in the heart of the French countryside. Good DIY skills needed for fixing and fitting blinds. Chopping and stacking wood in the garden. Housework, gardening and occasional pet sitting.

I loved that there were a variety of tasks and projects that allowed me to broaden my skillset. I appreciate Hilary's trust in giving us autonomy in completing these tasks, which allowed us to have flexibility in our day. Hilary was friendly, funny, attentive, and grateful for the work we were doing. I will miss the beautiful area, the dogs, and the Hilary along with the community and peaceful, artistic environment that she's created.

Evelyn is hard working, autonomous and always looking for a solution to a problem. She is a pleasure to be around and I thoroughly enjoyed her company. She will be a great benefit to anyone in need of help as she is very adaptable and did more than what was expected. I am very lucky to have found her to make such a contribution to my project

Hilary was a fun and generous host who helped us get immersed in local culture with recommendations, transportation, a flexible workday, teaching us important French phrases, and getting us connected with both travelers and locals. The property and accommodations were beautiful and peaceful, located on top of a hillside with towns nearby. The work was fulfilling as we got to see the improvements to the property made through assisting with various projects, which were as the description states. I had so many great conversations with Hilary and loved getting to know her - and the sweetest dogs!

Olivia was open to all tasks and was thorough in her execution and took pride in the finished result. She is open to engaging with people and communicating despite the language barrier. She works well in a team and took a lot of initiative. She is very easy to get along with and I enjoyed getting to know her over the period of time she was here. She will be a great asset to anyone in need of help

Hilary is a wonderful and kind host and person. ✨She is always attentive to whether you need anything and also makes sure you're comfortable. The place is incredibly peaceful and beautiful, with spectacular views🌅⛰️; perfect for those who want to be surrounded by nature and take a break from the city. I will always be grateful for having had the opportunity to help Hilary with her projects. I will miss her a lot, as well as the tea time and her beautiful and funny dogs.

Hilary was a kind and welcoming host and I enjoyed my stay at the farm. I was given a variety of tasks to do such as cleaning, painting, and strimming. On one of my days off Hilary even gave me a free pottery lesson which was fun. During my stay Hilary gave me some feedback that she felt I was not taking enough initiative. I took this on board and improved in my remaining time there. If I had to suggest ways Hilary could improve, I would say she could give clearer instructions of the work she wanted done. Also, there was a leak in the kitchen that could have been resolved more quickly.

Staying with Hilary was a wonderful volunteer experience and would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to get out of the city. She exceeded her role as a host with exceptional hospitality, making you feel at home. The work was beyond reasonable and never any pressure to do something you felt incapable of. It was a pleasure to volunteer at Pottery Farm Gallery.
