The Experience

We are building a community center / library to support the education and needs of our local community. If you choose this project you can help us to build and set up the running of the center. This will include building work, DIY and painting, gardening, project support and planning, IT support and setting up educational programmes and resources. We love working with our volunteers to find out new ways of doing things.

What an incredible two weeks in Arusha with James, his family, and all the kids! James and Linda made me feel so welcome, truly like I was at home. Every moment we spent together was amazing. Spending mornings with the kids in the library was an unforgettable experience, where I learned so much about them and had the chance to share some of my own life experiences as well. Even though I arrived in December when schools were on holiday, the time spent with the kids in the library was absolutely wonderful. I'm really looking forward to coming back at another time during the year. Asante, James.

My two weeks in Arusha were one of a kind! James took us into his house made us feel part of the family, spending time with them every day during our meals, it made me feel like I had a home there. I participated in the construction of one of the classrooms and James gave me the right guidance while at the same time allowing me the freedom to learn by doing, without any micromanaging. I really appreciated this approach. Meeting the local kids in the afternoons in the library was really fun, although a bit overwhelming at times :-) Overall a great experience that I can't recommand enough!

James gave us all the freedom in how we spent our free time, whether exploring the city, walking around town, or playing with the kids in the library. You'll be very independent and proactive here, but James is always available to help and make everything easy. James and his family were incredibly welcoming, the food was local and absolutely delicious!!! Just remember to bring toiletries and towels, or you can buy them upon arrival. Overall, this was an incredible, unforgettable experience I will forever cherish and remember with lots of love! Thank you for everything, Kissiri family! <3

James & everyone else are really nice & helpful. The teachers & children at both schools give you a warm welcome & you immediately feel part of the community. You gonna help them with english & math, creating posters for the classroom or just playing with them. If you want to go on excursions, James is there to organise everything for you if you wish & you definitely should do some.😉 The communication with James was always easy and fast. I would absolutely recommend it, if you like children, wanna do some interesting excursions and wanna see more about the real life.

My experience here has been amazing. I spent six wonderful weeks. This program is perfect for combining volunteering and responsible tourism: you have the chance to explore the city and the region, and James is always available to help and organize tours for you. Getting around the city is easy and safe. Helping out in the schools is both enriching and fun. Here I met so many people and learned about many different cultures. It's an experience I 100% recommend and will always carry in my heart!
