The Experience

We are an operating farm. Mostly silviculture. We farm mostly trees. We are situated in one of the largest Cork Tree areas in the world.Mediterranean forest ecoystems are considered one of the most important ecosystems right after Virgin Forests. We also have lots of pine trees both for lumber and also for pine nuts. Cork and pine nut trees are a very sustainable resource as their lifespan is over 200 years and they produce cork and pine nuts .

As a solo traveler, trying out volunteering for the first time, I found this place so enjoyable. The host and staffs are super nice and there was always an abundance of fresh, wholesome food available whenever you want. The work hours are flexible so you can take day-offs depending on your schedule. It's the perfect chance for someone seeking a connection with nature in countryside. Huge thanks to Antonio for being a great host and giving me a warm welcome!

I had a great at the farm! Antonio made sure that we had everything we needed, the volunteers have their own house and a lot of space. The amount of volunteers varied betwenn 2 to 7 people during my 3 week stay! The group felt really family-ish. We worked in the morning, cleaning or cutting brenches in the forest. Except for Antonio and Branca, the staff mainly speaks portuguese- so it is definitely easier if you speak it as well, but we made it work with a little spanish and patience. Overall the communication was very respectful and I miss the place a lot :)

My time on this farm was fantastic! Antonio is a very warm host who always cares about the well-being of the volunteers. The facility has everything you could wish for: a separate house for the volunteers, a pool, and even a large lake nearby. All the staff are extremely nice and the work is simple. All in all, it couldn't have been better. I will never forget my time with this host and am moving on with many good experiences.

Oliver you are an honest, kind person.Right away when we first meet you, we get that impression. You also strive to be fair.A hard worker, you take tasks to completion and ask for advice when needed, trying to improve things. We all liked you, staff and volunteers alike. You also helped me when it came time to train volunteers in how to prune pine trees in our forest, therefore you can be a great helper in orienting other volunteers as you also have some leadership qualities.Keep it up!

I stayed here for a week. It was okay, we did a lot of cleaning and working in the forest. We didn't really have to cook ourselves as the meals were provided which was really nice! There is a pool and a lake where you can swim. The farm is near a road but there is not really an opportunity to leave the property on your day off, or as they say on the profile free hiking tours, there wasn't any.
