My first volunteer experience have been great thanks to the amazing hospitality of Anoj and Upeksha. They are very kind, attentive and willing to help. They opened the doors of their beautiful and cozy home, sharing their culture and way of local life.Toddyland is a perfect peaceful place surrounded by nature where you disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself. Work is simple and enjoyable, we helped on the vegetable garden and planted banana trees. We also did hiking and visited Buddha temple for meditation. Highly recommend! Upeksha and Anoj where extremely kind hosts. The took very good care of us, they are a lovely couple full of bright energy. The placement is not really work oriented and it's something that those restless minds should know before attending. If you are looking for a place to stay, relax and discover the surrounding area while meeting some of the kindest locals this is the place for you. If you are looking for work maybe there's something that will suit you better. Overall I would recommend the experience to everyone, you will not regret it :) Thanks a lot to Upeksha and Anoj

Upeshka is very lovely as the other reviews say. But also as other reviews say, there was no work to do and nothing to help with. I really wanted to help do something during my time and instead I felt a bit like I wasted the week. I asked to help cook a lot and never got to. I get the impression there is never any work to do there. So if you want to go and relax somewhere in the middle of nowhere where you'll have to spend a lot of time on buses then you might be happy - just pack warm clothes! Upeshka did help give advice and took us out one day, it just really wasn't what I was promised

Too sad they gave me a no-show review, but i just send proof of my stay to worldpackers so here is my honest review that might be useful to anyone thinking coming here. Pros: -Upeksha was nice and helpful -The meals were tasty -You experience living with local ppl Cons: -No hot water -Bedroom has a strong smell of mould -Mattress was very bad and sagging -too many leeches, got all my clothes with blood -nothing to explore nearby, 2.5 hours to nuwara actually. -cockroaches wandering in kitchen -no volunteering activity I actually counted my days there and called my mom it's fine, but lied.

Let us be clear: you came to a volunteer site, not a five-star hotel.
• We never promised hot water.
• You argued with another volonteer girl during the Pekoe Trail.
• Leeches are common here; this is natural in our wet zone.
• Your clothes were spread in the lobby.
• You often woke at 11 am and ate very late.b.fast 12pm🥴
• You never cleaned your dishes.
• You spoke loudly on the phone.
We took you to a tea factory, hikes, and English classes. If you slept all day, how could we assign you tasks

I had the most wonderful time during my stay with Upeksha, Anoj and their lovely family. It has been a breath of fresh air taking time to immerse myself in the beautiful nature and countryside of Mahaweligama, falling asleep to the sounds of the birds and crickets! During my stay, I helped plant my own coconut tree, which was a really special experience, and I have also helped with the home - preparing land, planting vegetables etc. I have also had free time to relax around the property, go for a walk and explore, and we have eaten such delicious traditional food. I would highly recommend!!

The experience of volunteering at Toddylander will always remain in my heart. I'm very grateful to met this sweet, friendly and welcoming family with a good energy. It's a beautiful cultural exchange where you can learn a lot with a reconnection in the nature. Good place to get out of your comfort zone. Highly recommended. With also delicious typical food cooked with love. I liked to eat the fresh and natural vegetables from the farm. So amazing to explore the green nature with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, view point and to visit the Buddhist temple. Grazie Upeska, Anoj and family

Spent an incredible week here completely immersed in local culture— learning about the land, harvesting coffee & tea with locals, and embracing slow mountain life. Upeksha and Anoj are so warm, welcoming the home, I felt right at home. Anoj's parents who also live at the home are very sweet and eager to share their culture and delicious home cooked meals with travellers. Unfortunately it rained a lot during my stay so the work days were cut short, if we could work at all. Hosts are very encouraging about resting and relaxing on rainy days. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! & Bring a good book!

I had the most amazing time with Anoj and Upeksha!!! They gave me the warmest welcome to Sri Lanka and I can't thank them enough. Tasks were simple and the cultural exchange was everything I could have hoped for. Offered so many ways to immerse myself into the local lifestyle including the most incredible food! Their village is such a beautiful little place with insane views. I'm hoping to return one day🥰

I had a wonderful time here for a week. The household includes a young couple, the husband's parents, 2 cute cats and 2 sweet dogs. They were welcoming and made us feel right at home. The wife, Upeksha was happy to help with anything I needed. As for the farm work I learnt to harvest coffee beans and tea leaves. They have a vegetable garden too, where volunteers can help out. The food provided everyday was nourishing, delicious and gave us a taste of the local food. We also went to Nuwara Eliya and overnight camping, the views at both places were beautiful. Memorable time overall :)

I had an incredible first volunteering experience at Anoj and Upeksha's. The hosts were warm and welcoming, treating me like part of the family from day one. The farm itself is in the middle of the mountains and it's surrounded by tea plantations. I learned so much about farming practices and got hands-on experience with tasks like planting, harvesting, and caring for the animals. The peaceful surroundings and the genuine connections I made with the hosts made this experience unforgettable. I highly recommend this experience to anyone! :D
