I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to this beautiful family who opened their home — and their hearts — to share the gift of language with so many children and young people. A place where learning English becomes an act of care, connection, and hope for the future. Thank you for letting me be part of this meaningful work, for your warmth, and for the inspiring way you serve your community. Your generosity and dedication touched me deeply. I carry this experience in my he art.

Hi, Sandra. Thanks for staying with us. I and my family were very happy. The students got much new experience from your teaching. It was too short you stayed in our school. The students hope you can come again one day. Thank you, Sandra.

Had an incredibly rewarding experience in Blitar with Ali, Farid, and Alfi, owner of the host volunteering organisation. I was welcomed like family and enjoyed a wide range of free local activities—cycling, temples, bat cave, markets—plus optional paid trips like the Bromo hike and turtle sanctuary. Be aware: rooms are basic (only 1/3 has a bed), food is ordered in, and the house is remote, so not ideal for solo exploring (but the family will always take you to places!). The students are lovely, but you need to bring your own teaching materials. The kindness and care made it unforgettable! <3

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and had everything at our disposal. We met wonderful people and we left them with a heavy heart. As it was Ramadan, we only taught 3 days out of the 3 weeks, which gave us a lot of free time. The only downside was that Ali's house is not in the center of Blitar, which meant we were a bit far from all the attractions. Don't hesitate to rent a motorcycle, otherwise you'll be very dependent on people. It was a very rewarding experience, both socially and personally and we hope to see everyone again :)

Hi, Sophia. Thanks for joining our study club. Thanks for meeting in our outdoor class. The most impressive was when we ate together with the students’ moms at a fish pond. All people were very happy. When will you come to Blitar again?

Upon our arrival in Blitar we were greeted by Mr. Ali and Farid with a welcome gift, we felt very welcome. Mr.Ali and everyone in the house treated us very well with food everyday and tips about what to do in our downtime. We arrived during Ramadan so the school activities were extremely limited so we didn't do much teaching, but instead we attended multiple gatherings with local people and we got to taste a whole bunch of local food. We used all the time we got with the children to try to get to know them and teach them. Thank you Mr.Ali, Farid, Okta, Alfi and everyone else! We will miss you.

From day one, me and my girlfriend we were welcomed like family. Mr. Ali, Okta and the entire community radiate kindness, always smiling and ready to help. Teaching English and assisting at the orphanage felt deeply meaningful, but the real gift was immersing in Blitar's rich culture. Mr. Ali even took us to hidden gems across East Java, making every moment an adventure. Above all, it's the people who made this experience unforgettable. Their warmth and generosity left a lasting mark on our hearts. Blitar isn't just a place—it's home.

I spent two weeks in Blitar and it was an amazing experience! I felt like I really got to immerse myself in the culture and the locals were so friendly. My host Mr Ali always made me feel welcome and provided me with a variety of meals everyday. There were always extra day trips alongside the teaching, such as hiking or going to the beach. The teaching itself was fulfilling as you have a few classes that you teach each week as well as occasional visits to local schools.

Best for you Dalia. Thanks for staying with us. Your presence makes everyone very happy, especially the students. They ask us, when you will meet them more. Your joining to us was so short, you hadn’t seen all scenery here. Best regard from Chacha, Farid and Okta. We hope we can be together again.

I volunteered at the host for two weeks and had an amazing experience. Ali and his family were incredibly caring, offering activities like beach trips, hikes, and market visits. The kids were lovely, and I also taught at a private and public high schools, gaining a fantastic cultural insight. While it was sometimes quiet, the warmth of the locals and the meaningful connections made it unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a rewarding volunteer experience!
