I stayed at Thomas's house in Stromness for 10 days, and it was a truly wonderful experience. Thomas is an amazing host who immediately made me feel at home. My stay was very relaxing and easy-going, and even though we didn't have much garden work due to the weather (which was my main expectation), I still learned a lot from him through our great conversations. I also had plenty of free time to explore and visit most of the islands, which made the experience even more special. Thomas is very kind and respectful, and welcomed me well. I was meant to stay until Dec 16, but he is on the autism spectrum and has lived alone for many years, which makes long stays difficult for him. He felt overwhelmed and asked me to leave on Dec 2, after 11 days (arrived Nov 20). It wasn't personal. Orkney is isolated and transport isn't daily, so leaving suddenly was challenging. He manages better with short stays. It's important for anyone applying to this place to know that this can happen, as it has already happened with someone before me.
