Overall, I had a good experience. The shifts/tasks varied each shift, no day ever felt the same - from cleaning rooms, gardening, reception and dishes for the restaurant. The location is good for exploring local beaches and towns by foot. Some public transport available. I would recommend bringing some basic snacks with you. The food provided was good and filling. The wifi isn't always reliable for working remotely, however it works well in the mornings. Thank you Enrique & Kelly.

I had a great experience was a nice escape from the busy life into nature. Enrique & Kelly are lovely hosts and made me feel very welcome from the day I arrived. It is a very relaxed lifestyle in Spain, you quickly learn to adapt to the rural lifestyle. The work was very fair from painting, playing sports with the boys, cleaning rooms and working reception. The surrounding scenery is amazing with several beaches, neighboring towns and mountain trails a medium walk away. Some tips for other travelers bring cash, 2 towels and snacks since nearest supermarket is a 45 minute walk.

I had an amazing time. As I always say, it's the people that make the journey truly beautiful, and as usual, I met extraordinary souls 🫶🏻. The host, Kelly, is amazing and so sweet. The work was easy (it was during the prep for the opening season). Just so you know, the nearest beach is a 20-minute walk through fields with cows, it's truly beautiful. With the train, you can travel to nearby cities and enjoy the Basque Country. Thank you again, Kelly, for the opportunity 🫶🏻.

It was a very nice experience to reconnect with nature because the place is surrounded by beautiful beaches and mountains. The hosts Enrique and Kelly and their family are amazing people who literally welcomed us in their home, we used to have meals all together and share our thoughts. While I was there the bar was not open yet so the work to do wasn't much. Just be aware that there is no grocery store in the village, and also the surf that was mentioned is not included. I'll be forever grateful to this amazing family for all they've done for us and to have met such wonderful volunteers!🥰

The family was amazing at recommending things to do in Villahormes — from beaches and hikes to cycling and surfing. The natural surroundings are absolutely stunning, and there's a real sense of community here. I especially recommend trying the surfing — 100% worth it! This family's work ethic is truly inspiring. Their children are so sweet, and it was a pleasure to spend time teaching them. On my last day, I completely missed my transport to Seville, and Enrique went above and beyond to help me. I'm incredibly grateful. I'll really miss Villahormes and hope I have the chance to return!

I spent 7 days at the hostel, but I wish I stayed even longer! It was a lovely, relaxing and collaborating experience! It was intense and I know that these memories will last forever. The housework was quick and easy. Mostly changing bedsheets, hosting pilgrims, doing dishes,.. We could handle our own schedule and it was really flexible! I learned to work efficiently as a team. I met wonderful girls and we really enjoyed moving around, going to beaches, hiking in the forest,… Kelly, the host, is welcoming, respectful and kind! Thanks for everything , so long :) Chloé

Im so happy that i chose this place! host Kelly was the nicest and welcoming person and gave us a lot of freedom as the season in the hostel wasn't open yet. i enjoyed talking to the international pilgrims as well, as the hostel is actually an albergue, not the hostel as announced. about the surf - to get to the beach you'll need to walk for 30 min or hitchhike - that's what i did:) there's place where you can rent a board and take surf lessons, it's not free. the nature is stunning but you have to be ready that there's no supermarket in the village. thank you so much !!!

The location is absolutely beautiful – surrounded by nature and stunning beaches. You'll be walking a lot. The nearest supermarket is around 40 minutes on foot, so I recommend bringing some snacks with you. Food is provided, though dinner is usually served quite late, which might take some getting used to. Kelly is very kind and welcoming, and the children are lovely to be around. However, Enrique made a few strange or inappropriate comments about another woman, which affected the atmosphere at times. Overall, the location is beautiful.

Positive: -amazing volunteers from all over the world, cultural exchange -interesting conversations with the hostel pilgrims while at reception -breathtaking location with beaches in walking distance -flexible 4-hour shifts, lots of free time negative: -tasks often not clearly explained, causing confusion -Enrique(host), made sexist, offensive comments to a fellow volunteer girl I would have rated this experience 4.5 stars but because of Enrique's behavior which is absolutely unacceptable and should not be tolerated in a volunteer setting, I feel I must lower my rating to 2 stars.

I had a great time volunteering, the location is great with nature and stunning beaches. The volunteering group was so great and I felt welcomed. You need to be very flexible because organisation is chaotic and some details on site don't match reality. There were slight problems with the food (very basic and repetitive). There were bigger problems with the host, because through his actions he seemed to view volunteers as a lower category of people and he made some very sexist comments to a fellow volunteer which left me shocked. Before that I would've given it 4 stars but this was too much

Camila , Over the years, we have welcomed more than 500 volunteers, each with their own point of view. Due to differences in language, culture, age, and personal circumstances, it is normal to have a wide variety of opinions about the same situation, as if seen from 360 degrees of perspective. What may seem white to one person might be black or gray to another, and this diversity enriches the experience.
We are glad you enjoyed everything,
