The Experience

We live in North Kerry, Ireland, about 30 minutes from the sea, there's a ruined castle in the next field and fantastic views of the hills. Our house is a restoration project, built in 1835, "we" are an antique dealer and carpenter, between us we are restoring the house and its gardens.

Wow, I could not have asked for a better experience! Howard made me feel right at home as soon as I arrived. I was happy to assist in renovations and build on my practical skill set. Some days were physically demanding, others were set aside for cleaning and organizing. We took turns preparing delicious meals. The home is beautiful, the views are great, the dogs are adorable, and Howard is a gracious teacher. I would recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning more about painting, decorating, building, and repairing.

The stay at the house was simply great. Howard is an amazing host, always asking if we are ok and explaining the tasks clearly. He make us feel completely comfortable and have good times together. The hours were respected and we could have time for ourselves. The tasks completely manageable, the food was always great and we cooked in turns. The place is amazing, far from cities and great to feel the peace of nature. If you want to feel welcomed, learn more about repairs, gardening and live like locals in the countryside, this is the perfect option for you.

My experience was amazing. There are beautiful views and historical sites nearby. A perfect place if you are looking to be close to nature and in peace. Howard, the host, is a gentleman and a one-of-a-kind. A high skilled worker who can teach you a lot and also share lots of stories. He has two dogs that are very sweet. The house itself is like a picture straight out of a book. The accommodations are clean and cozy. My job was outside, working in the garden. We took turns cooking and helping to keep the house clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this position and I'm very grateful for it

I had a really nice time at Howard's! The working hours are respected and there's a nice variety of things to do; apart from the working hours volunteers take in turns to cook for dinner and to clean. The house is in phase of restoration and it's open countryside, so the lifestyle is quite rural, but I personally found the estate beautiful, and the surroundings as well if you want to explore; the closest pub is at 15 minutes by walk. Howard is really kind and friendly, he helps you a lot with your English and makes you feel like at home from the very beginning. I definitely recommend:)

I had a wonderful time at the home. The estate is amazing! Howard is very friendly, and the dogs are lovely too. I felt comfortable right away. Howard creates a relaxed and open atmosphere that makes it easy to feel at home. There's a good balance between work and free time. Although the location is quite rural, you can get around by bicycle. It's the perfect place to unwind and improve your English.
