The Experience

We run a CrossFit gym and 5-star guesthouse in the remote mountains of Ōtoyo, Japan. Volunteers help with cleaning, laundry, and light maintenance — about 3–4 hours a day, 4 days a week. You'll stay in a staff house with kitchen and washing machine. No meals are provided. Free gym use and CrossFit, Hyrox, Strength & Conditioning classes included. It’s peaceful and beautiful here, but very remote — ideal for nature lovers, not partygoers.

We had a great time at Violet's guest house/gym. Violet and her family is very friendly and welcoming. Cleaning the guest house is quickly done but you should be thorough. From time to time there were other things to do which were always easy to manage and fun (e.g. cutting plants, picking fruit). The town is really small but the surrounding nature is really beautiful and with a bike or hiking you can reach nice places. Two major highlights are the guest house classes and their dog Vader!

I really recommend this opportunity for if you like to be in the middle of the mountain with very scenic views. It's a very small village at a beautiful location! The work is really easy and relaxed. The accommodations are really good and clean. You have your own room! For me the highlights were the sport classes which are really good if you like to have a good workout, and Violet and her family are really caring and helpful. I really enjoyed getting to know them and working with them. Violet is really open and easy to talk to, which made the experience very enjoyable!
